PITTSBURGH BOARD OP TRAMS
COMM) t Era. FOR JULY
REVIEW OF THE
PITTSBURGH MARKET,
TEE WIELL =maw JULY 18.
In reviewing the markets for the week jug en.
ded, we hove to notice very little, if any important
changes in prioes. Tho week has poised off, qui
etly, and with one or two exceptions, the market
remains Weedy as quoted in our last general re.
The weather; for the moat part, has been clear
and pleasant; we have had very little rain, and the
river has gradually receded, until there is now
barely water sufficient for the larger chum of boats ,
bat as the trade is well provided with a large num
ber of low water steamers, the river, even should
the weather continue dry, will afford water amply
sufficient for all the 'purposes of trade for some
Mite to come.
The receipts of breadstuffs and provisions, have
been quite limited, and as a consequence, some
articles, particularly flour and bacon, have advan-.
ced. Shipments east since the opening of the ca
nal, have been fall, hence the advance m the arti.
cies mentioned above.
The grocery market has undergone no import,
ant change, prices remaining nearly the same
as we left them a week since.
ASHES—We have no important changes to no..
ttce in the market. This is the dullest season of
the year, the demand has materially fallen olf, and
the sales of the week have been guns limited at
the usual quotations
ALE—As usual, during the warm weather, very
little ia'doing in the manufacture of ale. We find
'no change in prices, regular sales being effected
at $7, including cask. Of the finer quality of ale,
the market is bare.
APPLEZ—The receipts of green apples have
been partial, and limited sales only have been ef..
keted from first hands at 52 p bbl.
BACON—There has been a decided improve
ment in bacon, both . in the mu ter n and western
market,
market, with a corresponding improvement to oar
own market. Owing to the falling' oft fa the re.
celpts, and full shipments which have been mak.
log east, supplies have become more limited. We
may quote the market brisk, with regular sales by
the hhd of City cured from smoke house, at ma
0, and 5r # lb. Prime Cincinnati cured bacon,
is sold at alxiut the same figures; and ordinary
quality at o to In less.
BUTTER.--Receipts during the week have
been very light, and prices for best quality of roll
and print butter, have partially advanced, with
regular limited sales from store at 14015 a. Good
kegbutter, of which there is very little in market,
may be quoted at Wade p lb.
BEANS—The market is dull, with smell sides
of good white fro store, at 62610 c p ba.
BalCK—For the different qualities, we quote as
follows:—Fire, 515-, pressed, 517 paving from yard
55,50(a56, common, 4,25114,50 M.
BATTING--Soles o( common to prime at, from
9 to 121 c ir
BEESWAX—The market is quiet, and bat lit•
tle doing; ere may quote nominally at ^.3 ateper
pound.
BUCKETS—RegoIar sales of Patent Beaver
from More, at 2,25; from firm hoods at 13 5e2,20
doz.
811.00.343 -s -sales of first quaky at 51,75a52,2.5,
81110011 ti qualftrot 1,5001,67, nod of common mer.
chantable tit 61,12031,25 c {fir doz.
COTTON YARNS AND SHEETINGS—The
market le withien change; we 'jive coneet quota
tions in table.
- CRACKERS—The advance in flour has not as
yet changed the prices of crackers. and sales are
still affectation; 011owr.—
Weser Crackers $1,75
Butter do 4,50 "
Pilot Bread "
Sugar At Scala Crackers 7c p
CANDLES-Sales of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati
star are effected at 220 it th. Of mould, at Iwo,
11c, And of dipped at 00 ft
CHEESE--Considerable quotittea of W H con
dom, to Attire by river, and the market it well'
supplied, with generally a good etude. We note
Gabs' ot *dna 900 boxes, •varions lots, at 5, si,
and 50 p ar in quality and terms of sale.
COTTON-During the present dultirmaamt, and
the general suspension - of dtafeuvries, nothing
consemtencis is doing in the coarileifuntrwe omit
quondam'. Several _lots tare attired during the
week, mostly to the order of manii - tacturera—
Some shipments have been made to the eastern
market. .
CORDAGE—The marliet is quiet, with no
change in prices. The Mowing is n correct list o
