I The river, lost cvetiiug, ai dusk, wax rixinjr alow.
If, with 1T» feet water in diannel. We had, since
Saturday morning, two arrival* of steamboat* from
JJevr Orleans, and one froiti Cincinnati, nil richly
ladencd with freight fromthe lower market.
The running ice in the river below, has mraxn*
rahly disappeared, or became much lighter during
the warm spell of weather of the past week.—
There is now but little cou«c nf detention in navi
gation either above or ]>elow our city, and business
generally, during the coming week, will doubtless
bo of a more lively character than for the past few
tgeeks. '
Kit Cabsox.—'The jday the letters K. C
wiere.put up between the; chirnnie* 'of tltis fuie
boat, a parcel of youngsters were standing on the
side walk on Front street, \rondering what those
letters meant. Fiually, after much discussion, a
little follow spoke up and said he knew what they
otood for—-it was, “Kreation Coming." By the
way, we think this puttingitho initials of a boat's
tame in a conspicuous piaffe, a good idea. It on*
ables passengers and others to lind the boat at a
glance when lying at a landing, jammed in umongxl
a fleet of boats.
It lls stated that the captain of thenll-Gited *tea-“
mer Jouxsox, which blew up a few dhyx since, on
her passage from Cincinnati to Wheeling, wax
thrown, by the force of the explosion, upon the ice
ut the edge of the river, and mode lux wav to the
sliore, without serious injury-. • '
It iw also stated that thecusunlty, although se
vere, did not result in the loss of so large a nubt,
ber of lives as at tint reported. \
Snipmo Ixtfwjoexcf.—Arrived ‘at New .Or
leans betwean tlifc -iSth and 20lh of December
ships Silas Holruex, Far West, Mctoka, Southerner
and steamer Glol>e, from New York. 1
The Ctntßnu.\M> Flood.—The rise of water in
the Ouubcrland river is represented as greater
than any previous rise siiiec 1820, if not since
ITJ3. The Clarksville Chronicle, of Saturday, lSth
uk, speaks ax follows:
“Clarksville iajiovr a cape, witit only one out-lct
