PHILADELPIIIA, Oct. 19, 1863.
no campaign In Virginia is practically
closed for this month. The reports of a big
Impending battle woro originated to aid spec-
'ulation.
There is no truth in the report that Meade
is back in his intrenchmonts. He remains at
Centreville. The enemy's foroo, which acted
as decoy on the Rappahannock, is visible at
Bristow station, from elevated ground near
Centreville. Their advance guard is at Ma
nassas Junction, where the two railroads
meet, twenty-coven miles from Washingted.
The enemy in Virginia are in the exact posi
tion occupied in July, 1861, before the first
battle of Bull Run. Meade holds the same
ground then occupied by M'Dowell.
Reports say that Meade cannot be driven
from Centreville. Past experience proves
that no amount of bard knocks can drivo'the
enemy from Marianas Junction. Manassas
has only been taken heretofore by . going
around it, but never -by a direct attack An
front. The two arnica are about of in
strength.
The President's call for moro mon is an
imperative necessity, demanded by General
Meade and other commanders of 'the army.,
The stories of Confederate deetitution' are
net verified. •
A fresh raid into Pennsylvania impoicsible.
- Mosby is strapped in Ms saddle, with one
leg amputaled at the hip Saint; and running
a wild career. On Saturday night, In a daring
raid, he got between the soar of the army and
our forces for the defense of Washington.
A cavalry picket of 'eleven men were cap- '
tared on the Chantilly road, near Fairfax,
three of whom escaped.

and drove him back to Okolona, with a force
of eighteen hundred men and taut pieces, of
artillery. The command of the rebel General'
Chalmer's was also defeated and driven. lig
Col. Hatch beyond the Tallahatchie. -
Dispatches from Bridgeport, Tennessee,
state that Captain Kennedy, of the staff of
Gen. Wheeler, was captured near Trenton,
with important dispatches for Gen. Bragg,
the purport of which Is not communicated.
The official report of the losses at Chatta
nooga bring the grand total to about 16,006.
Of these four thoneand six hundred and eighty 7
five are missing, and about two thousand Ace
hundred were wounded.. Thirty-six pieces of
artillery were lost, and a few wagons. Bosith
ern papers of the 9th still insist that their
whole loss will not exceed twelve thouaand.
Col. Fish, Provost Marshal of Baltimore,
arrested Lynch and Teal last night, at North
East Maryland. They were to light with fists
