• Gen. Sigelirstrintrtst=d:Wixitii branches
of the 'West Virgtnis liglilature, on Thum
day last. Ho was welcomed in the Senate, in
a neat speech by Mr. Hubbard, temporary
President. Gen. Sigel responded, pongrata-
Wing the people of-West Virginia upon their
success) in rescuing t 4 new State from the
grasp of. Southern traitors. The kind recep
tion wee more than he could expect, but he
world do big best to deserve the honor, and to
retain the sympathy and confidence of the
American people. In the House, the distin
guished visitor was welcomed by the Speaker,
and in response remarked that as long as he
remained on American soil—and he hoped it
would be forever—he would do bis hest to
help the country, in peace and in war.
Long Skirts.
The filthy and extravagant fashion of long
'skirts for ladies' dresses has been abrogated
by the latest edict from Paris. An exchange
paper says: It is not the fashion now, we .
tire happy to state, to wear long
,trailiag
dresses in the street, and to sweep the streets
with them, an 3 - ic , into
houses. That" &AM l9 — eiire36:l, - and the
women and girls who arcrignoraitly indutging
in It, are behind the age, and hnce, deci- .
&dig nnfiuhionable. Should any e of our lady
readers happen to walk up end down the fash
ionable avenues of New York this month, they,
will sea the frith of this prove,d. There trill
appear really fashionable young ladies, whose
'dresses have been recently imported from
Paris, or made after Parismodels, all of whose
dresses are so looped SIP in the skirt as to show
the petticoat well, and tolightly avoid touch
ing or trailing on the pavement. This change
In the faihion is ono of the most sensible wo
haye yet had occasion to record.
Tea Yol.ronana.—liaionie Mill is nightly
filled by intelligent audiences, drawn thither
by the great attractions offered in the Poly
:crams of the War. We, have time and again
alluded to the rare beauties of this entertain-
Mont, and our citizens, who are ever ready to
patronize real merit, crowd the hall to its ut
most capacity at each entertainment. This
afternoon children will be admitted for ten
eentatmeh, and hundreds Will danbtlesaim
prove the oplortunity.. _
