The Nest Coal Run.
It V roughly estimated that there are now
4,000,000 bushels of coal in the boabsdnd
barges, on the pools of the . Monongahela,
awaiting, shipment to Cincinnati, Louisville,
' and.points below.. This amount Is much less
than might' be expected, and indeed less
than some persons elem. The principal roe
son.wy, th e amount is not double, Is because
etthe'inibility of our coal merchants to pro
parajiaryires in which to float it to market.
The scarcity of diggers has also operated, in
some degree, to lessen the amount. The
high'prices tholower markets, however,
'Minstar° an ample supply as aeon as there
is.a ftillicieney of water to got the product to
the.points °tourism:option. The entire 4,000,-
000 bitehels Will go out on-. tie And rise, and
thigtielll lash the coasument below until the
barge! : , ere, returned. for another ran. Our
merchants are -now anxiously awaiting the
ristilwhich generally takes place about elec-
tiate.tliner btit at. present the prospects semi'
eymedinilj remote. The rise may come in a
week, or it may be "postponeP until snow
falls on the mountains.

OUR SPECIAL DISPATCHES

Special Dlspatche to the Plttatkligb Gazette
WASHINGTON Cirr, Oct 15, 1863
TIIS Novi:until nrrretsr.
Remittances In noin chocks, covering the
November interest on 11. S. Bonds, will be
made to the National Banks in season fur col
lection by the first of November. There is no
need to send here for coupons. Acting Sec
retary Crittenden's remarks about foreign in
vestments in our bonds, is calculated, as re
ported, to convey a wrong improssion, although
$330,000 was received in one day. This was
an exception. Tbo whole amount received
from abroad within the last fifteen days is
$1,000,000. Of course further statement that
foreign capitalists have Invested enough to
pay oar whole army up to November Ist, is
incorrect. -
TUE SITUATION IN IEONT
There Is at last light upon the situation in
front. The fighting yesterday grew out of an
attempt of the rebels to cut off a train of
wagons at Bristow Station. The Immediate
guard was first driren in, but the second corps
suddenly attacked them, and after a brisk
fight put.the enemy to flight, and captured a
rebel battery In: fire minutes in the hottest

PENNSYLVANIA.
Piu.tanat.rnta, Oct. 15, 1863.
All the counties have beett...leard from.
Curtin obtains 55,308 votes, and Woodward
31,886; giving Curtin a majority of 20,422.
The official rotors will differ a little from these,
and sic as likely to increase the majority as
to lessen it. In Philadelphia several wards
4orulidered hopelessly Democratic, have come
outnobly for the Union. The_ city may be
considered permanently for •the administra
tion during the remainder of the ear.
Gen. McClellan's letter had no .circulation
outside of the city, and the majority for Cur
tin shows that it was paper wasted. It is now
scarcely spoken of. McClellan's influence Is
evidently a thing of the pail. Had ho been a
clever politician he wotddr never hive com- '
mitted himself toe failing cause. The cattle:
4iasm has settled into a quiet joy and satis
faction in the great result. The Governor,
Legislature and. City Cottnciis are all for the
Union, and Pennaylvania's.entire influence is
pledged to the AdministratiOn.

CONGRATULATORY ORDER TO THE
ARMY OF THE POTOMAC.
WASHINGTON, Oct. 15.—The following gen
eral order was published to-day :
, ireadvarterr Army of Potomac, Oct. 15.
1 The Major General commanding announces to
the army that the rear guard, consisting of the
Second corps, was attacked yesterday while
marching, by flank. The enemy after a spir
itedcontest was repulsed, loosing a battery of
five guns, two colonels and 450 prisoners.
The skill and promptitude of Major General
Warren, the gallantry and bravery of the. offi
cers and soldiers of the Second corps, are en
titled to high commendation.
By command of Major General Meade.
S. Witaxsus,
Assistant Adjutant General.
The guns captured, four of which aro United
States Regulation 3-inch, and one Blakely
gun, were exhibited hero to-day.
The prisoners were mostly Carolinians,
fifty of whom have expressed the desire to
take the oath of allegiance.
Our casualties yesterday wore small. A
considerable number of rebel dead and wound
ed fell into our hands, the latter not being 'in
cluded in the finegoing aggregate of prisoners.
The march from our late to the present po
sition was accomplished in most perfectorder,
and without the loss of wagons or other prop
erty. The enemy was held in cheek at every
point where they attempted a surprise or
attack. The tomes that attacked Gen. War
ren was portions of Gen. Hill's Corps. Some
of the prisoners state that they bad marched
from Hanover Court House, near Richmond,
since Saturday last.

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 15.—The long deten
tion and stoppage of several California bound
ships en route from Now York and Boston, at
Rio and Valparlaso, coupled with the loss, by
capture, of four clippers, and the foundering
of the Donate, off Cape Horn, is beginning to
have ita legitimate effect in oar market. Many
staple goods, usually supplied almost exclu
sively from Atlantic ports, are running low in
stock, and eomeleading articles are now quite
out of market. Prices in consequonce are
well sustained and hardened.
