The mere fact that the newspapers of the

to give hope, and aid, and comfort, and
strength to the men who are at open war
with the Government, the Constitution and
the lioa of their country.
No 'one victory which the rebel armies
could possibly pin OM the armies of the
Union would so strengthen the rebel cause
as the elention of WOODWAZD and VALLAN-

lot in either, whatever may be his motive,
does s greater service to the rebellion, and
inflicts a greater injury upon his country,
than if 'he were to take his rifle and fight
aping the soldiers of the Union.
Those Southern politicises, who are

We have 'heard much said la relation to
adap dignity of the position 'which Judge
Woodward occupies in the canvass," and
perhaps It is owing to an opticaldefeetthat
wekcannot discern this "dignity." At all

reader will be able to discover something
like this "dignity" in She following splen

Judge Woodward as Oily Gammon.
A correspondent-la the Philadelphia
North American communicates the follow
ing to that paper:
This gentleman recently obtained a ticket
of entrance into a large machine worke in
this city, and as soon as he was inside
commenced to violate one of the rules of
the works plainly printed on his ticket,
"No visitor is allowed to converse with the
workmen," by electioneering the Demo•
erotic ticket among the men. He told
them several wonderful tales, among:which
was a statement that he was sure of ono
hundred thousand majority outside of Phil
adelphia; so that if he did not get a single
vote In the city his election was a certain
ty. As the Judge is so sure of his election,
it is rathera small bounces to be guilty of
acts like the above. When is his dignity I
Beaman Connamcm—The English Board
of Trade returns for July show a large in
crease In the export trade of the kingdom.
The value of the exports during the month
was $68,260,000, an increase of $7,600,000,
or 1211 per cent. in excess of the total for
the corresponding month of last year,
and
$17,770,000 in excess of that for July, 1861.
The improvement has been distributed
among all the principal artiolee of produo
lion, linen and woolen manufactures being
especially prominent. There has also been
some revival in the shipment of railway
iron to the United States, and the expert
of arms and ammunition has been more
than double that of the same month of the
last two years—the total, which vane $897,-
000 in July, 1862, being now $860,000. Of
cotton manufactures the shipments show
an lacrosse of 10 per cent in value, beta de-
crease of about 20 per cent in quantity.

Moore, of LOIII/318/16, and Lubbuok, of Tex

been in convention at Marshall, Texas, to
consider the present aspect of affairs in
that region. They have issued an address
reviewing their misfortunes, setting forth
their bright prospects, urging renewed ef

section of the Confederacy will seek no
destiny separate from that of the rebel
States out if the Mississippi: They lave
also established themselves ace Committee

"I am now in one of the richest gold
mines of this or any other country. They
have been but a abort time discovered,' and
the best portion of them have not been
opened, but those that are now being
worked pay from ten to twenty-flee dollars
per day. It's thought that there are others
to be opened that will pay one hundred
dollars per day to the hand, from the fact
that twenty-flee dollars to the pan of dirt
has already been taken out of them."
