}TRW braid, :Sept. 13 —A Morris Island
letter of the fish; to the Herald, gives an ao •
count of the rodent boat expedition against
Sumter. The ,flotilla consisted of between
twenty and thirty boat,, manned by over 100
sailors, under Ltont . Commander Williams,
of the WhoahOkon, and 100 marines ander
Capt. McAuley. The entire km nu com

advanced.. Three boats under commander
Williams, Meta. Roomy and Ensign Porter,
landed and the parties attempted to run up
the cuts to.the parapet. They were fired
upon by musketry and hand ianades thrown
down upon them. The slope was so sharp
they were unable to reach the parapet.
A signal was given from the forts and In an
Instant all the rebel batteries opened on the
fort and 'shelled it terrifically. 'Throe boats
were enuulted and oil who lanced were killed
or captured. Lleut. Bradford, of the marines,
was mortally wounded and captured. Com
mander Williams, Lieut. Preston, Mut.
Brower, Lieut. Banco, Dr. Wheeler, Ensign
Alden and Ensign Porter were also captured.
Forty or fifty sailors and =trines wens killed
and wounded, and the entire list of casualties
will samba eighty. The remainder of the
