Tima, “ere afraid that the retain of these regi ments will so weaken Hooker's army as to make speedy operations impossible. This i* not so. We do not suppose that in the whole of the thirty-so Ten returning New Xork regiments there are now more than between ten and twelve thousand men— and even these will not all be taken from Hooker's army; and as an official report, published by authority the other day, mag nanimously informed the rebels and us that Hooker had a strength of 159,328 men, it will be seen that the loss of the two years' regiments ought hot to furnish an exouse for laaotion. Beside the two years'menfirom this State, there are also some regiments from Pennsylvania, whose term has expired, but their number is small.’' We may add that the number of Pennsylvania regiments, (nine months’ men), whose term of service is about to expire, is fourteen— which will probably increase the above estimated ten or twelve thousand to fifteen or sixteen thousand. Bjt the army under Hooker, acoording to the foregoing estimate, will atUl considerably exceed one hundred and forty thousand men. The Methodist Church oe Slavery. At a Uta meeting of the New Tori East Conference of 'the Methodist Episcopal Church, the doting day of the session was deroted to the country. We subjoin the first resolution, which is onpremise of the spirit of the whole report: Xitolvidf Ist. That American slavery is in principle and praotioe fundamentally , incompatible with the principles of Chris tjanlty, with repubUeaq institutions, with the peace and prosperity of our country, and with the traditions, dootrinls, and dis cipline of our Churoh; aud it beoomes us as as patriots, and as Metho dists, not to deftnd its existenoe, but to seek py our influence, our preaching, our pray ers, and our exertions for its extirpation. > The 4th resolution severely oondemns the" “black laws" of some of the Northern etid which some of our copperheads wished to have enaoted in this State.
