From the Ninth Reserves.

JSditon QateUe z As (he Ninth Begtmeht of
the Pennsylvania Reserves l* composed chief
ly of'men from Allegheny. and
their neighboring districts, very many of
yoar renders will be interested in hearing
from them* Indeed, the entire division of
the Beserre Corps belong to Pittsburgh more
than to any other city, and therefore I shall
not speak of the Ninth more partloniarly than
of the otherf. Yon know how the New York
Htruld —that very truthful sheet—slandered
the Reserves after the battle of Fredericks-i
burg, and how they were defended by the
New York 2Wt«M and Philadelphia Inquirtr.
Their friends at home have np donbt been
folly convinced long before this; that the Be 4

for mortal men to light. It is true, they re
treated, after they, had lost ib killed and
wounded nearly two thousand: men—nearly
half their number—but It would not be very
reasonable to cxpeot that the/ alone and un-i
supported, as.they were, should whip the
whole rebel army. Oapt. Owston and Adjai
