' —The following dispatch frpm Newborn to
a Boston paper, describes the tailing of the
expedition, and adds an (tem-or two besides:
The sailing o{ the expedition for, I believe,
Charleston harbor, was one of the;grandest
sights I ever witnessed. The fleet consisted
of about 125 sail of vessels—steamers, trans
ports, tags and sohoonert.
At about 11 o'clock on the 30th of.Janaary
the sails of the various small craft were loos
ened, and, silently, one by. one, in 'clqso. or
der, they .glided from.the harbor. Nexi fol
lowed in the same rapid succession the steam
ers, store-ships, transports, tags, and all. It
was a magnificent sight—one long line of ves
sels, crowded with troops cheering. The,
bands were playing and the oolors streaming
from the masts. -
I counted seventy-eight schooners and
Stores hips, and thirtv-twp steamers, contain
ing a very large body of troops. At dark the
vessels were still,passing the forts.
The gunboat Daylight had reached Here
head City from the blockadingjiqoadron off
Charleston. The officers of th|i; vessel report
that the iron gunboats faisslQ and Uo&tauk,
a number of mortar vessels, aad various other
United States war wert at nnoherL-in
Ball's Bey, near Charleston, when they left.
The 4th Maaiachasotts Regiment, and some
other regiment at Newborn, had been ordered
on another expedition, which was to start on
the morning of Feb. Ist.

boundaries, similar to that conferred to the
county of Philadelphia.
