They charged the fortifications several times,
bat were repulsed by oar artillery and Infant
ry with great loss.
The enemy, aa usual, before and aftar the
fight, demanded a surrender, and offering to
spare life if aooepted, Ac., Ac. Col. Harding
replied that he was ready for aU the eonse

The enemy's loss In killed was over 100 and
in prisoesrs 800.

RIVER INTELLIGENCE.
The river continues to recede slowly at this paint
with scant six feet by the marks last evening. The
weather yesterday was cloudy and soft, and the mow
U gradually disappearing. The AUogbmy river la
again almost entirely clear of Ice, so that navigation
frojn this point out U now wholly unobstructed.'
There was considerable activity manifested at tbe
wharf on Saturday, and tbe shipments ware unusual
ly large. The receipts, however, were limited, the
Silver Cloud, fromßt. Louis, being the only arrival.
The departures, on Baturday, were the Armada
and Lizzie Martin, for Cincinnati, and Nellie Bogers,
for St. Louis. The Armada has been withdrawn
from the Wheeling trade for the present. The Mar
tin went out flying light.
The Armenia and Eutiana ware advertised to leave
Cincinnati for this point on Saturday last. The Sul
tana ta just a new boat and waa built at Cincinnati
Our Cincinnati exchanges speak in high terms of her,
and we Judge from the accounts Vs have read, that
she is a very fine boat.
