•Al ston m the letter and paper were re
- ceired, Hr. Gardner at onoe undertook to find
J* Shaul, but so far as hi can learn there is no
such person here. He alio oalltd upon Mr.
George Fortune, Secretary of-the Board of;
Guardians, whose business it is to look.rafter
the unfortunate o> destitute strangers who
mhy- borne to the city, Here he learned that
* no raoh ease as that desoribed had eome to his
- knowledge; and furthermore, that If the girl.-
had died here, under the oireumstanoes alleg
• «d, he would have shown it, as hsr burial ex
- peases would haTe beeu paid by the city. He
; also learned ihatno suoh person had been in- |
; tarred in any of our cemeteries, as appears 1
.'from the registry kept by~thf Physlriaa to the'
Board of Health. In addition to all thistos
timohyj we are safe In saying that if the girl
;’.had wandered here in. nutate of insanity, and
' died as alleged, the fact would hare found its
waylnto the newspapers. ItU quiteclear,
then, that the girl did not die here.
; The circumstance mentioned in the.letter
of Mr. Plummer, that the. note addressed to
.. him wasppst marked VHarrisburg," although.
. dated here,, may lead to some inforaarion
concerning the fate of the girL T * r J. Shaul" is
no doubt a fictitious.name, and the person as-'
' sumlhg it has evidently been in Harrisburg.
% The 'papers there miyhelp to unravel the my
stery by publishing these frets.
• It It very probable ihst the. gUL hasboen
