mere viotories. Mr. Chase may-well, say
to the Generals In the field: Wive me vic
tories, and firam them I'U coin the money
to pay your soldiers.”
Then is no other solution to our finan
cial diffrrol**—- Mr* Stevens may insist on
more legal tenders and heavier bank taxa
tion; Ur. Bpaulding.and the rest of the,
i Ways and Means Committee' may higgle
t. about paper currency,and pusle themselvea

Treasury; Ur. Chase may demand his mo
dified National Bank scheme—them an all
frivolous and unmeaning dissensions wheat

Without theses- no - scheme . will save the
Treasury from hopeless bankruptcy; with
them, while thfcre mftybe.lmportant ques
tions to the retpeoUve degrees of expedient
ey, any of the schemes will carry us safely
