Philadelphia Ocean Steamships.
We adverted recently to the subject of
ocean steamships, and continue it as a sub
ject of great interest to out people.. The
extensive inorease of produce for European
export, arriving in this city since the dis
continuance of the last ocean steamship
line from here, leads to a cortainty thabno
difficulty will be experienced in procuring
immediate outward cargoes. Every rail
road finding its terminus in Philadelphia
has greatly augmented its former amount
of carriage. The Pennsylvania Central,
more especially, has. extended its commu
nications to the far West, and, moreover,
receives tho outpourings of many recently
constructed minor roads in thiß State. The
enormous daily arrivals of produce in this
city ore known to but few. Much jof 'this
iis sent abroad in sailing vessels,! but a
| large amount-is sent coastwise th New
York or Boston, and shipped from thence,
t Our city, through its coal and iron, has a
j supremacy in manufacturing- over New
1 York, and although inferior to her in for
eign trade, need not, by any means, allow
her to absorb that branch, of commerce.
Outward cargoes by a steamship line from
Philadelphia would be answered by ample
