that the effects of tobacco were stimulative

ritorial -Enterprise, a petrified man- was
found some time ago in the mountains
south of Gravelly Ford. Every‘limb and

The excavations of Cheviot Hills, Eng
land, have led to tho discovery of the very
perfect remains of several huts, composed
of blooks of the vasaltic stone of the' dis
triot. They belong to a very remote period
of-the British history. Rem&iac.bf beads,
and other glass ornaments, flint arrow
heads and broken pottery have |jeen recov
ered. Remains of iron clay have also been
found, from whioh it would appear that the
smelting of iron was understood by onr
Celtic forefathers at a far sarlier period
than is generally supposed.
An English paper describes a harebunt,
daring which the hare took to a track of
the Cambridge and Bedford Bail way, fol
lowed by tho hounds. Presently a train
was seen apprOoohing, gaining rapidly on
the hare and dogs, and though; the hunts
men and gentlemen engaged ihthe hunt
used every possible exertion to tall off the
dogs, they were too intent in overhauling
‘poor puss to heed the call, and Uxo engino
ran over the whole pack, killing five and
mutilating others. The haro escaped.
