lion. Rebut McKnight did not wish to in-,
tempt Dr. Marshall; bat he wished to bare
it settled whether they would sit with
open doors as usual or exclude those who
were not members. ...,
It was said that there had been no
motion on- the subject that it was only
thrown out as a suggestion. -The motion
was then made and seconded, and the
chairman said all in, favor of excluding
outsiders,
or those who are . not member,
of the hoard, will signify it by saying- aye.
Here .several members said they hoped it
would.not be voted upon, as they thought
the end would be aecomplished without a
formal vote. One of our most wealthy and
respectable bankers refund to leave until he
wu "voted out" formally, but being persuad-'
ed that it was better to leave, he took kis de
parture, though a professor had informed him
before his entrance, that the meeting was
open to strangers. The doors wire neither
open technically nor literally. The windows'
were. But being neither thieves, nor rob
bers,-nor liars, we did not choose to climb up
that way. We expect from his insinuation,
however, that "a Director" is accustomed to
receive such persons. We hope to find him
in batter company in the &tare.
"A Director" says, "ne one was either
politely or rudely 'ejected from the meeting,"
.and yet, he says, an " intimatlets". was given
that our. "presence was not desirable."
Which of these statements Is true! . As to
our having no Interest In the Seminary, it is
very .questionable, as.we have been invited be
fore now to procure students for it, and per
haps hare done something in that Line. As
to our havlng.no love for it, ilia positively
untrue, and unmitigatedly gratuitous. An
institution that offers a bounty to students of
other denominations for their attendance,
should be open to all.
One of the Directors assured us, if we would
attend the meeting of Presbytery, we would
