Thereto nothing striking in the progress of
. .
ratite at Camp =Howe, except possibly the
mot, which every one notices and comments
neon, that there are no -wells sunk yet, and
the men are therefoie compelled - to carry
drinking water nearly a quarter of a mile.
-When will this pressing want be supplied ?
According, to an order from the Provost
Marshal, Col. Campbell, every officer and pri
vate belonging to Camo Howe must have a
pass countersigned by Capt. L. W. Smith,
commandant of Camp Howe, or they will be
liable to' arrest- The order is not enforced
strictly as yet, because no company has been
detailed to act as a guard in the city to enforce
t. In the course of • day or two, though, its
salutary provisions will be reduced to fact.
The 139th regiment, Col. Collier, is pre
mixing to leave Camp Rolfe, for Harrisburg,
buttes met with unavoidable delay in the
issuing of uniforms and.' the payment of 'the -.
United States bounty. Theirmarching orders
are, to "proceed without delay," but it is
hardly possible they can go before to-morrow.
The best feeling prevails in the regiment, and
every man is desirous to enter upon the field
of satire duty. .
About noon of yesterday a owns possessing
profound - interest transpired at Camp Howe.
Wm. Semple, Esq., of Allegheny city, wholes
great liberality has so materially aided Major

Col. Collier then introduced to the regiment
Capt. A; H. Snyder, of . the blercer.County
