Sinee my last dispatch, Informing you that
I had communicated with Flag Otheer Fans

Intercourse with hit Beet through the active
energy of Gen. William.. ' •
On Wednesday, the 26th instant, I went ep
the Yaluo river with two rams, the Monarch .
and Laneuter, the latter under'command of
Medics! Cadet Chia. R. Eliot. I proceeded
about 65 miles, to • point where the river is '
obstineted by a raft built :by:the enemy and
protected by four gnu in a battery. My ob
ject was to captors or destroy three of the en
emy's gunboats that I was Informed were
tying before the raft—the'Nfin Dom Polk
and Livingston. I ran up close under the
battery, and wee mortified to see the enemy
set fire to the boats and start them sAriftdown
the river. I was obliged to leave the river to
escape the conflagration. The three boats
were totally destroyed.. - The enemy did not
• fire upon us. , • .
It is with great pleasure that I announce
the arrival of Flag Oftiou Farisgut, with nine
vessels of hit fleet, above Vicksburg., ,•They
passed up this a. m.-about 5 o'clock, through.
a severe fire from some thirty or forty of tha
enemy's guns. Their loin as far as repOrt_eto
was four men killed and thir teen wounded.
