delphia has arrived from Beatifort, and the
Erricsson from Key West, with dates to the
fBth, and from Port Royal to the 23d. The
Navy brings passengers, including Gen.
Benham and,etatT, and 57 a Idlers, wounded
in the Into engagement on James Island, near
Charlestori.

The United States troops, under den. Ben•
ham, made an attack at 4 o'clock un the morn
ing of the 13th inst., and wore repulsed, after
'foar hours hard fighting, with a lose 0f_668
killed, Wounded and missing.
The Michigan Bth had but 250 men left at
roll call. The New York nth also suffered
severely.
The Union troops woro obliged to rotrea
under cover of the gunboats.
Cot. Perry, of the 48th Now York Volun
leers, died at Fort Pulaski, June 18th, of ap
oplexy.
Gen. Brannan, from Key West, was expected
daily at Port Royal.
The , Ericson landed the 7th New
Hampshire, four companies of the 19tb
New York, and four companies of the let
regular artillery, at Port Royal.
,The Newborn Progreso, of the 21st, reports
that the rebels at Kenaton and Goldsboro are
living on half rations, and frequently de
eerting. Their force is small.

The rebel pickets had burnt Tuscarora, and
destroyed a portion of the railroad.
It is "reported that fifteen rebel, were killed
at Fisbercille by the accidental explosion of a
- shell, which had been thrown by one of a•ir
gunboats, but did not buret at the time it was
fired.

SAN Fararctscu, June 22.—The Union Con
vention, called by the Republican State Cen
tral Committee, met at Sacramento on the
17th, and nominated John Sweet, of San Trim
deco. as the candidata for Superintendent of
Public Instruction. No other State officers
to be elected this year. The interest centers
in. the choice of members of the Legislature,
which elect a United States Senator.
Tha Urliol2 Democrats will nominate their
candidate by State Central Committee. They
will make vigorous efforts to secure the con
trol of the next Legislature.
, The ..Breekinridge Democrats propose to
atiandeis their organization.
Oregon dates to the 12th say there been had
another great freshet, doing serious damage in
the valley and other portions of that State.
The business portion of l'ortiand was entirely
inundated.
Crowds of miners had commenced returning
from Salmon river, representiog that district
as limited in extent, and over-crowded.
The totalpumber of men which emigrated
from California to British Columbia , are esti
mated, since the year commenced, at 20,000.
Guerrillas fa Missouri.
CHICAGO, June 27.—A special dispatch
to the Journa4 dated Quincy, says that the
guerrilla parties which have been forming all
winter in north-eastern. Missouri are now in
effective shape and well armed, having a num
ber of small amnion. They number about 700.
A part of this gang attacked a small party of
State troops on Wednesday, near Montioello,
killing eight and wounding a slumber mere.
