Affairs ;remain in much the same condition

a - rebel' ,regiment doduring !the late fight, is
not to be dispised. Such men are worthy the
name Hof American soldiers. But although
these men will stand firmly - under showers of
bullets,*hon they 'see a row of Union bayo

determined Mal' behind them, cheering as
they steadily advance, they are seized with a
seemingly undefinable dread, andretreat with;
remarkable alacrity: ' ': " . - •
' The battle - field has' now assumed a more
civilised appearance.- ' The wounded hive all
been reinoved;and the dead buried; while the
innumerable heisee.Which lay dead over the

and one may now walk threugh the scene of

No.positivrinews has been received from opt

that nearly all bad arrived there, miama, as
far as known; doing well. I saw, s by the-

his wounds—another victim t 6 the fell spirit
which has so Ring desolated out country. lie

that hassesulted so fatally. Another patient ,
in Philadelphia is Captain Patterson, of Bir

he was always with his men, setting them , .
good example by his strict attention to duty,
and when the array. was called to take part in
sterner scenes, his cheerful countenance and

passed the fiery ordeal in safety; but. on the
late bloody field, while striving to rally his
min to bring them off together he fell. His
wound, thougheevere and painful, is nut mar

two officers I Use mentioned, because eon

a halt, and after a few moments the party
turned back, 'as if Satisfied with the slight in
sight theibiad obtained of the condition of
affairs in *the Union lines. (Ar pickets re
sumed their stations, and-soon all was quiet.
The IMO have now been drawn as close, or
nearly as 'close, as they. will 'be. The right
wing is within three miler of the capital, and
the pickets hairs mile nearer. The center is
about seven mikes away, and the left- wing
about fear", The videttes of the left wing are
near enough to see the smoke arising from the
great city before them, and a Lieutenant of
the Sickles brigade yesterday obtained i die.

The rebels have a limited space td fight in,
and, like the cornered rat, will probably fight
