Interesting Particulars of the Erne
notion of Pensacciju.
Voluminous dispatches have been received
by the Government from the Gulf. They re
late principally to the details of the recent
movements connected with the capture of
New Orleans.
The evacuation, though probably occupying
three' or More days, wee finally accomplished
on the night ot,Friday, the oth inst.
Ulm magnificent Marino h ospital is a heap
of ruins. Only-a email portion of the.wall is
standing. The Marine Barracks, being fire
proof, are uninjured. Only a few of the re
maining buildings in Warrenton and Woolsey
Were burped. All the GOvernment buildings
in the Navy Yard, except the foundry and
machine 'them and offcers' quarters, were
burned; also the ship Platten, on the stocks,
together with a large quantity of coal lying
on the wharves.
Every preparation was made for destroying
the 'Custom Meuse, it being filled with com
bustible matter, but from some cave it did not
ignite.
At Pensacola they burned, two steamers—
the Neafie wati Bradford—and the large oil
works in the Outskirts, with $15,000 worth of
oil. They attempted to burn the wharves at
Pensacola, but,Capt. R. It. Jackson, Aid-de-
Camp to Gen. Arnold—who went up in. the
schooner Marii J. Wood, with 25 men, with
a demand for the surrender of the city—sue-
coaled in extinguishing that:lmes and saving
the. wharvs, a large quantity of lumber, two
schooners loading with cotton, and other prop•
-erty. In this he was aided by many citizens
of Po/33440113, who appeared to be glad to see
him.
Capt. Jasksin was conducted to the Mayor'
office, where ha mot the Mayor and a number
of Aldermen. To his demand for the surren
der of the city the Mayor acceded, as he said,
"to the extent of his ability." Capt. Jack
eon was told by, the Mayor, Mr. Bober, that
Gen. Joist, who has been in command since
Gen. Bragg left, weir determined to destroy
the city of Pensacola ; and it was only at his
earnest solicitations that he finally consented
to spare private property.
A story is chrrent that an infernal machine
is attached tolhe magazine of Port Baroness,
to blow up 'Hien occupied : by our forces. To
give plausibility to this, the key to the mag
jtine was' found hanging in the entrance by
the postern gate, looking like an invitation
-to walk in that way. Gen. Arnold has wisely,
ordered a thorough examination to be made .
by Major Tower, of the Engineers, before
allowing euritroops to enter.
It is inipoAdble yet to tell the amount of
ordnance stoles which bate fallen into our
hands, - or thn number and condition of the
guns. Mos4l, their hest ones were removed

cording to th story, ware entirely sunk, but,
three of them were so badly disabled as to be
rendered alniost useless. The impression at
the fort .was; that they had been badly whip

LAO ERROR EORRAOTRD.—An impression has
obtained gederal circulation that the garrison
of Fort &lacer' surrendered with the honors
of war. An; txtimination
the - ,Articles'.of
Capitalotion; we are authorised o say, will
show this not to be the case. The garrison
surrendered as prisoners of war,And se such
were paroled; Col. White delivered' up his
sword, which was returned to him by General
Burnside and if the officers were permitted'
to retain Glair elite arms, it was by the special
favor of the General, and not by virtue of any
stipulation. I The explanation is duo to the
credit of our gallant and' successful com
mander.
