assigned their respective positions in bat
tling, with the enemy of all,zighteousness.
It has been said that the 3Sthodista have
been-thrown forward as pickets, or , pioneers
on horseback, to prepare the way for a gen
era advance. The Baptista go on expedi
tions with gunboats along the coasts, and
• up the rivers) where there is plenty of wa
ter. Thet strengthen the blockade against
the entrance of wicked cruisers, and re
duce many a fort of sin and iniquity. The
Presbyterians have been described as the
infantry, moving in solid columns, and
fighting according to Napoleon's tactics, in

—The next Sabbath after the passage
of the act of the abolition of slarey in the
District of Columbia, the colored church in
Washington City held as a day of thanks-'
giving and praise. A cerrespondetit ;writers
'The people wore full of praise, and from all
quarters of the house went forth silents' of
Tiraise. Among other things, one of the
bretheren called out horn the depth of his
heart: "Glory to Lovejoy!"—"No brod
der, no I datum not right. Gib God all the
glory. All de praise belongs to him, re
eponded the preacher.

The following is a paragraph of a special field
ordiir issued by Oen. u nlleck:
Gnards will be placed, in-the evening, along
Chamber's creek. No officer or soldier will
be permitted to puss to the rear, and no citi
zens to the front of flee Jine,_ without special
authority by CommanderS of the army corps.
Division Geseralii will see that their camps
are cleared of all unauthorized hangers-on.
Any one attempting to evade this order will
be conipellcil to work in' the intrenchments,
batteries or in the construction of roads.

This is understood to apply to all persons,
oorrespondental included. ,
Fifty-seven privates,, three corporals, and
ono sergeant, were captured at Dresden, Ten
nessee, while coming in this morning, under
it flag of trace. An equal. number will. be'
sent to-morrow in exchange-
Cul. Jacob Thompson, a member of Beaure
gard's Staff, formerly Secretary of the Interior,
accompanied the flag. Ile admits the fall of
Norfolk, New Orisons, and Tensaeola, but de
nies the faltof Richmond.
Deserters.- are coming by squads, and all
agree that the robebt are still there, fortifying-:

Who Raised the First National Elag
in Yorktown-• The Fugitive Slave
Law Enforced, etc.
WASHINGTON, May ' 16.—Tho Hon. Henry
Wilson has received -a letter from a field
officer of his old regiment,_ the 22d Malta.
chusetts, claiming the honor of raising' the
first national flag on the rebel works at York
town. AC 8 o'clock, on the morning of 'that
day, Col. Gove and the 22d relieved Col: Black
and the advance guard. Soon after, the rebel
works were occupied by Col. Gore, who
planted the. national flag,• belonging to his
regiment, upon the ramparts, where it 're
mained during the day, being the only na
tional flag raised upon the works, or in the
town, until the 44th New York came up in
the afternoon. The tams of the regiment
claim that. the official record will prove this
fact.
The Fugitive Slava Law is being quietly
enforced in the District to-day. The military
authorities are not interfering with the .judi- -
cial process. Viers are at least 400 cases
pending. It is said that some of the nogroes,
whose
.owners or agents froin Maryland are
there cooking their recovery, mysteriously
disappeared thin morning.
Two of fdeneral Orders No. 102, dated in
November, having hien revoked, the officers
and men transferred to skeleton regiments
under itstoperation will he assigned to their
original regiments as las( 10 vacancies occur.

cold North-east wind and rain. In COMM

sent to Cherry Stone this afternoon.
Secretaries Seward and %Solicit and Attorney
General Bates arrived this morning and pro
ceeded to Norfolk With Com. Goldsborough,
Gen. Wool N aito visited Norfolk to-day. All
inlet there:
Orders have been issued , by Gen. Wool pro
hibiting the nicer distribution or newspapers
in Norfolk or snriounding..coontr,y, prohibit
ing the transportation of supplies or -merchan
dise of any kind, whether by sutlers-or other
-wise, and prohibiting officers, soldiers and
citizens from visiting the city, except on busi
ness connected with the troops belonging to
the Department of Virginia.
