The Democrats antb-border slave State
Men in Congress have been exceedingly ac
tive of -late, and an attempt' is making to
t revive the old Democratic, pro-slavery, se
cession sympathising party. - A CAUCUS or
Private meeting has been held, under the
management, of Vallandigham. I have it
on-the bestaisthority, that, although many
respetahle war Democrats attended the
meeting, the leaders were all white-foother
D emocrafii—gentlemen who have always
opposed the war against the rebellion. The
gentlemen who called it, who drew up the
_ resolutions, and who-were at the head of
the meeting, have been known in political
eirolesto : boathe friends of the South" The
• objeet of' The caucus is easily seen, by all
but blinded Democrats, to the restoration
of the rebels to. their old honorable po
sitien at the head of the government, and
to give slavery guaranties of power and
, continued existence. This now organiza
tion will zealously oppose every adminis
tiort Measure which affect slavery either In
this District, the territories, or anywhere
else, and, while ostensibly supporting the
war, and voting supplies for it, will en
deavor to seize upon ate first opportunity
to make a compromise with the rebels,—
Corresionefifies Bren. Post.
A Specimen of Rebel Humanity.
A Mr. Showers, who was an unoffentling
citizen of Fairfax county, Virginia, and a
Union man, owning a fine farm, where ho
has been residing for many years, about
half-way betiveen Fairfax Court House and
- Vienna, was taken by the , rebel troops,
about the time they were "evacuating Cen
treville, and forc'ed to march on foot with
• the same rapidity with which they beat
their retreat on horseback. So rapid and
— exhausting was the march, the began
to falter, when the inhuman savages, with
a bintality which would have done justice
to the wild liadiani; Spurred him on, - at the
point of the bayonet, until the poor man
dropped down dead in the road. We obtained
these facts thrhugh a person who recently'
escaped from the clutches of the rebels, and
who knOws tilde to be the:facts of the case.
Mr. Terry, a relative of the deceased, has
imen.down as, fur as our lines tixtend, in
,order, if pbssible, to obtain the body of his
murdered friend, but failed in his efforts.
He learned that the body was buried near
the road side, between Manassas antLaer
donsville; bat he- ivits warned not to go to
the place, as the rebel pickets were still
harking near the spot.

OVAL CARBON OIL
I=l
Patented October eth, 18G1
The best that have ever yet been offer.' to the
They are the beta fur the following reasons:
1, Because, being of au oral shape, the glass in
everywhere equally distant from the flame, so that
the draft le stronger and more regular.
I. The oval shape is better atLpted to resist the
effect of sudden expausiou, so that it is Impossible to
muck them.
I. The glans ie made !Argilly of Lead and Pearlatih,
giving a great degree of at rength and elaaticity. Thu
chimneys which housekeepers hare found to be so
brittle aa to crack, even when not in use, are Invaria
bly made of Lime Glass funned of Flint Wage, of
which ours are lannunictured.
4. But the greatest advantage of these Chimney. is
that when you have one it will last forever, sod if
any housekeeper tweaks one by the heat of the lamp,
let her call at the manufactory and we will replace
her cracked chimney by • dawn whole once. Thin
proffer does not include accident. or these awes of
breakage where the chimney luta, through inn:peri
-1 ears, been '.crowd no closely to the lamp as to pre,
vent lie expansion when heated.
Menefee:tuner. and oonsuntern of Carbon Oil, who
&eve felt the magnitude of the obstacle, which bee
exieted in the great exnee of chimneys, in the w
of the universal use of the oil, haves ound • remedy s in
the Oval XX Flint Clan Chimneys, which has mate
rially lessened the cost of Carbon Oil light to those
who use them, and increased the evmantuption of till
comequent upon, the lessened expense for chimney..
