Wow Prentice is Loved by his New
- Friends.
A Kentucky correspondent of the Cin
cinnati Gazette has the following:
Sitting at dinner with a friend, at the
Houseyyesterday, we were joined by
a notorious secessionist, who had been ar
rested sindheTd in confinement’on charge of
furnishing aid to the enemy, and who was
then liberatisd only under heavy bonds not
to leave the city, My companion had been
speaking of the probability that the Ten
nessee -refugees would be' reimbursed for
their .losses-.by the confiscation of rebel
property. “Do you think you Northern
fellows are going to get to interfere 'with
any-of .the Southerner’s property 7" asked
our Secessionist. Tothe reply that such a
result might really Impossible, he retort
ed, “No indeed; you're not going to tonch
their property.. Old Prentice lias fixed that
mailer! IleTllet-'em know what they can
dob .Hejustsaid the word, and old Lin
coln squatted, Congress squatted, and they
nil squatted; -He tells’em what to dS, and
of they’don-1 Come right down, Kentucky
goes South where she belongs?’
“But Ihe-liegislAturo may -have as much
to say about these, matters aa any individ
ual,’’ we suggested.
•They won't stand anything, cither, now.
I thought once they would, but Prentice has
stopped, all that, and they won’t take a
thing frsm the Government now. If the
Government don’t do just to suit us, Ken
tucky goes out and joins her friends."
. ■ “Bat you people have been talking about
hanging Pnntioe 7
“Gad! wo shan't hang him nowl. He’fl
done too mneh for our side. He's atoned
for everything."
. . It need only be added the* above is a
strictly .and literally truthful statement of
an, actual" occurrence. The 'name of the
