The transport steamer Constitution, Capt.
A. D. Fletcher, arrived here this afternoon.
The Constitution left Portland on the 21st.
of Korember with the 2Gtb Massachusetts
and tbo 9th Connecticnt regiments, and
arrived at Ship Island on the 3d Inst. All
the troops were landed the next day in four
hoars, by means of the rebel steamboats
recently,captured by our Jlcet.
The Constitution remained at Ship Island
four days and sailed for Key West and lU
rania. She will take on coal hero and sail for
Boston to-morrow evening, where it is
posed she will take on board three more regi
ments-for the South.
A steamer, doubtless the Spaulding, from
Beaufort, is coming up the bay.
Brig. Ocn. Phelps, at Ship Island, Missis
sippi, on the.sth hut., put forth a proclama
tion to the loyal chitons of iho South-west
strongly anti-slavery in tone. .
