Tybee Island lies noar the mouthof ithe
Samnnah River, which is the diriding lino
between South Carolina and Georgia, /to tho
Southward of the bar,and about twenty miles
Southwest from Port Royal. It is one of the
long chain of sea islands which stretch! all
along the coast of that and the adjoining
States. The island is small, not as la&e as
Port Royal island, and is chiefly of mono oa
as a stepping stone to Ceckspnr island, Jlyung
immediately to the north of it, on is
situated Port Pulaski—a very strong’ w<frk,
that defends the entrance to the Saranhah
Riyor, and is the defensive -outpost jthe
City of Savannah itself,. Tybee.laland {has

Fort Pulaski is situated on the northeastern
comer of Gockapur leland, which is separated
from Tybee raland by the creek or arm of the
sea already mentioned. It defends the mouth

secession times, quietly stepped in and took
possession. They immediately commenbod

fully garrisoned. Tho work is intended for

A VISIT TO RICHMOND.
At tbe Battle of Ball’s Bluff, Capt. Harvey
the Adjutant-General of Col. Baker’s Brigade)
was known to have been badly wounded, but
no intelligence was received of his fate. Sion
after the battle his wift was furnished with**
pass by the Government to proceed to Rich
mond, which she did by the boat with a flag
-of trace from Fortress Monroe by way of
Norfolk. Sho returned threo day* sinee by
the same route. -She was kindly received in
Richmond, where abu learned that her hus
band had diod. She was allowed to visit pur
prisoners in the tobacco warehouse, and jho
reports that they are well cared for, except
that they are in want of sufficient clothing

many regiment, on reaching Richmond, was
met by some of hh Old-West Point classmates,
and by other officers in tho rebel army with
whom ho was formerly associated in the
United States service, and that he had been
kindly treated.

ville, Major Owen Jones, at tho head of a
squad; surrounded the house of Dr. Day, a
notorious Secessionist. The rebel doctor Was
taken out of his bed. He protested against

and took sick to be removed, lio was brought
away with the other prisoners. We lost but
