following extract of a private letter from an
officer in Gen. Btingiese command, dated °sca
ms, Oct. 24:
Lett Monday night, one week ago, we re
ceived mucking orders to- proceed to West
port, 44 miles tra southwesterly direction

then. We remained at Westport until Fri
day morning,:when we took op the line of
march to join the grand army. Last evening,
