treats. Captain Haskell, an aid, is a part

eary, was ordered to reoaive and pay exor
bitant prices for inferior, mules from Capt.
llsekall, and upon protesting against this
wrong, was ordered away from the post by
General Fremont. 1

which, on delivery, proved rotten and worth
less, and though condemned, were paid for
and sent to the hospitals.

commander of the naval forces of this great
expedition, is

Jersey but received his appointment into
into the Navy from the State of Delaware,
of which he_is a citizen. An original en
try into the service of his country was on
the 19th of Deoember,_lB4s; he has been.
therefore, nearly forty-six years in the ser
vice, and , his forty-aixth anniversary may
bring him more glory and raise him higher
in the estimation of the people, both at
home and abroad, than all the previous

successful, there cannot be too much said
