The artillery and cavalry review to-day
was by far the grandest spectacle of the kind
ever witnessed on this continent, and probe.
bly the mom imposlng that ever will occur.
There were six thousand cavalry, and one
hundred and twelve guns. with ail the appur.
matinees, In the parade. The cavalry was
drawn up by companies to eve lines upon one
side of the field, and thoarlillery formed the
other aide of a 'piate at.nght angles with _the

two bandied acres. *imp portions of the,

hardly be excelled. Thete was room for
the' review, but not for any display of the

Long before the hoar filed for the review
the ;Population orWadnalton, chizent and

from the aristocrat-to the e:btee on toot, to
omnibuses and every imaginable style of equi.

ocuary.to keep intact the lines of the seview
ground. The crowd was scattered along the
whole extent of the lines, bat Was thickest
and deepest in the-vicinity of the gag that
marked the position to be occupied by Gener
al McClellan and his staff. Amoog the egei•
pages in attendance were noticeable those of
nearly all the foreign- dignitaries: The car..
riage of the President of the United. State,, id
which wore seated Mr. Lincoln and Mr. Sew
ard, was couvicuotis 10 ' the throng. Thi
Prince de Joh:mile was also present.
At twelve o'clock,.the hoer fixed for the re.
view, Geo. McClellan, attended by all of his
staff who were not otherwise engaged on the
field, and accompanied at hie invitation by
Gee. Blanker and Gen. Sickles, each with his
staff, and escorted by the mounted body guard
under Capt. Baker, appeared upon the field.
His appearance we. the signal for the review
to begin. He was received with the custom.

right.
Tito-artillery was commanded by Gen. Batty,
the cavalry by Gen. Palmer, and the whole
review wu commanded by Gen. Stoneman.
The force' in line were placed in open order,
the artillery by batteries end the cavalry by
companies, inn subjected first to a MIA re
view by the G 1 and his staff, al they rode
along the ranks thus formed. Upon the In
stant he bad taken bin position, the whole force
was put in motion by the powerful voice of
Gen. Stoneman, and passed in review, giving
the military salute in curios Ilia General'.

hurried off the field to make room for the nth.
ere. The ground in many pieces wee soft, but
the lines were maietained with excellent pre-
cision. The cavalry to the line were all vol.
Deicer., except the Filth regiment United
States regulate, commanded by Major Whet;
a•nnYtion of the Sixth, eot yet completely or
ganized, commanded-by Col. &awry; and two
companies of the Fourth, and one ut the Sec
ond United States regular cavalry. Several of
the best drilled cavalry regiment, and a num
ber-of batteries of „ertillery vvece not included
in the review, as they . ware. on duty with the
dieciions to which theySaari - attached.
The review was ertelitableNtoirolkt.ooi.ects
and Soldiers. Seldom, even In the immense
armies of Europe, has such a large body of
splendid looking cavalry and artillery soldiers
been brought together. The men were cal•
worth, and the horses generally In good con,

and elicited enemy high tILCOI9IIIIOIII. Several
distinguished European military officers who
were present expressed earpriveit the won
derful efficiency of men who had been drilled
so short a time. They viewed .it aa one of the
evidences of the astounding resources of this
great country.
At the close of the review Gen. McClellan
turned to Gen. Stonemen, the commander of
the review, and congratulated him npoa the
Wonderful Improvement: made by the cavalry
and artillery. Gen. Btoneman was also con
gratulated by Gen. Blender, who remarked
that while such a spectacle might be expected
in Europe, ohere immense standing armies
are maintained, the presentation today was
startling for a 17151ina scarce three quarters of
a century old. The Prince de Juinville, who
has enkiyed opportunities of watnereing the
grandest military reviews in Europe, said be
bed never before seen so many cannon in ode
field at one time. it wu truly a grand sight,
and one to make American■ proud of their
country. Upon every aide, ■mong the spec
tators on the field, the regret was expressed
that such a body of cavalry and artillery was
not it. action at Bull Run, for It would have
swept the rebels from the field.
A demonstration like that of to-day cannot
be described. It needs to be seen to be ap
preciated. Oae hundred and - twelve cannon,
attended by fifteen hundred men.and horses,
and nix thousand cavalry, with sabres glisten.
log In tbe inalight in tine body, is indeed a
formidable array.
The commander of the review noted that
one of the moat splendid and but drilled bat.
tortes upon tbe fold' was from Manachaeatte

Captain roller, which boa until recently bean

of fifty-seven prisoners from Richmond. All

where they remained until sent to itiohmond.
Of the number, however, Captains Butterworth

Election 1n the Pennsylvania Cams'.
The eleottaa to the Pennsylvania camps to
day proved a very doll; affair. Many of, dm

being composed of mon Iron various counties,
they wore at a loss as to how they shoald vote,
as each company was called into line to deposit
its ballots.
The Impression is that the Pennsylvania

while the result among other Philadelphia vol
