LETTER FROM DENVER MTV.
Deriita, Sept. 18, 1561.
Through the politeness of Col. Tappan, I
was invited to visit Vamp Weld, a mile from
town, situated on the bank of the Platte, 'a
most delightfol location. The Colonel bed
invited the two bodice of the Legislature io
take dinner with Mon, and as I had the honor
of an invitation, I consented to partake of hie
hriapitality. There are 300 soldiers stationed
at Camp Weld, and several companies are or
ganising, which will in a short time increase
the ;lumber:to a thousand. They are building
barracks for winter quarters, and a magazine
to protect their powder. D supplies the
mining region, and if a descent was made on
the city ...by the Indians, Texas Ranger! and
Secessionists, the miners would be lelk in a
state of starvation. Hence the importance.of
a strong military post. Supplies are. very
high. Corn is $9 per hundred pounds; beef 7

Thsl, egislature and the Secretary have had
a .spicy - little affair. The Secretary ass ap
pointed a Territorial Printer, and the. two
Houses in joint convention have elected a
Printer; and resolved not to furnish but one
copy. of the proceedings Printer whom
they have elected. The - Secretary claims that
he is clothed with alithority to appoint a Prin
ter, and hence the collision between the Sec
retary and the Legislature.
I noticed among the bills being acted upon
by the Legislature, a bill to incorporate &Gold
Mining Company, known by the name of the
..Rocky Mountain and Pittsburgh Gold Mibiag
'Company.” Several Pittaburghers - were at-
Melted' to it as corporators.
- The company propose to locate on South
Boulder, at or near Mammoth City, Wisconsin
District, one of the richest gold districts in the*
Reeky Mountains. The largest quartz leads
that I have seen in the Rocky Monatain are
on South Boulder Creek, near Mammoth City.
They are from one to via feet thick, and pros.
pact ,good. Success to the Rocky Mountain
and Pittebergb Mining Co. They have before
them the but prospect of a princely fortune,
any company in the Gold Region. I r an cob.
Iselin' specimens of quartz from the 'different
leads, bat find those trom . the South Boulder
far superior to those from any other district.
I had the pleasure of meeting my old friend
Gen. Latimer, yesterday. He is enjoying good
health, living vary frugally, helping his eons in
business by his advice, as every kind lather
should. Ile speaks kindly ofittsburgh and
his Many friends there. We hope his tonne

a kind family, whose study should be to smooth
