The rendieg world will be shocked and grieved

The steamer Jamestown remained in statue
quo..
The Confederate officers at Richmond esti
mated the number of man at. Yorktown at fif
teen thousand, and from ten thousand to twen
ty thousand at Norfolk.
From personal observation the gentleman
estimates that at least oae-fourth of the Vir
ginia troops proper are cavy. They are
well mounted, armed and eq uip ped , and Unix
cutlessee are all sharpened.
The troops from Pensacola at Richmond
gristly concur in the kniosaihility of taking
Fort Pickens. It is - sidd that they wore in
duced to come North from representations
that Fortress Monroe' would fall a more easy
prey to secession valor. Many Northerners
are among thorn, and came , as the only possi
ble chance of getting out of Seoessioom by
desertion, or turning against the Confederates
on the °ennui:we of an engagement •
Frovial' one at present are plenty in Rich
mond, and vast crops of cereals are being har
vested.
The Washington Stu confirms the report
theta the steamer Yorktown. It adds •that
two officers, late of the federal navy, are mak
ing surveys of the liner to get her oat into
Umbel." Commodore Btringham is prepared
to meet her.
