The Arrest of Col. Allen.
The statements we have had lately from k'ort
ream Monroe respecting the insobordination of the
troops there, and the wanton injuries to persons.
and property in Hampton and the neighborhood,
seem to be only . too well founded. The regiments
most in fault are mid to be Col. Allen*, and Col.
Can's. Col. Allen's latest' dense was himung
wheat field, and taking men in custody who were.
armed with protection front Gen. Butler, whither
wire]; or not, it was hardly within the province of
a colonel to decide. In a word, he was himself
guilty of insubordination, as he has allowed his
men to be, and Gen. Butler did rightly in striking
at the root of the difficulty. it is only to be hoped
that he will follow up the matter, and by sum
mary measures, put a stop to such proceedings
which disgrace our army.

There is no word which falls upon the ear of
