Affairs eittatMip MailbSire.
The delightful weather of the part lew daye has
Barred to render Camp Wilkins as dry and nom
tortable as a eoldiet - andd mien. We took a stroll
thtongh the Cainslmoterday afternoon, aid while
there was nothing beyond the routine of camp life,
then o Is , of
.are was no lack of objects to interest the spec
tato/. We entered after dinner had been served,
end when the soldiers were at liberty to plarsaw
their inclinations, whether of inmates, or of
Pleasure.
At the well-known "watering trough," where
thoneands have quenced their thirst daring the
annual fairs, we observed a dozen or so of rugged
Volunteers bneilyengaged in washing clothes! Yes,
the-way some of these stoat fellows
made the suds dy would have astonished their
wives and sweet hearts They grabbed op a pair
of socks or drawers, a shirt or a hasdkerchief, and itl
a died time the ankles were ready - for the lien.
They sin so Washboards, but do the work by I
hand-rabbing. We did - not ezamine the pieces, to
see if the "streaks" were all oat, bat the washing
had i wonderfully parifyieg effect . upon_ the gar-
Next we observed several parties engaged in
pitching quoits, and amusing themselves in various
greys. Net the least attractive spot was a ring,
surrounded by about two hundred men,in thecae.
tro of which pairs of amateur, pugilist : at en
coasters with_ "the gloves" This species of,
amusement is very popular, and the camp embraces
'event scientific bazars who. Can accomplish a
knock.down or draw the claret with . the greatest ,
ease—both of which tests were repeated several. )
times while we looked on. The exercise is excel• d
lent for the development of • the muscle, but it is
"hard on tbe eyes." i• " •
The camp now contains upwards of - 2,000 men,
ac
embred in twenty•aix companies. The Erie
troops forma separate regiment of ten companies,
and the Allegheny county and other companies,
airmen iff all, have been dnilingin one body, which
is riche too lugs and unwieldy for proper manna
voting. Under these circumetences, at has been
determined to form these ampule. into two bat
tillons, of eight companies each, which will prob
ably be arranged in a day or two. Three or lose
new companies will be admitted daring the coming
week, when two fall regiments can be organized.
The following named companies have already
been ordered into camp: Brighton Riflemen, Capt.
Cuthbert, of Brighton, Beaver county; Curtin Mo
rale Rift es. Capt. AL &Adams, of Beaver, Beaver
county, and a company from Unionto srn, Fayette
county.
Thg Meadville Volunteers were reorganized yes
terday, owing to the resignation of Capt. Johnston
and First Lieutenant Chase. Col. M'Leau ordered
a new election, which 'malted in the choice of S.
B. 'bra, Second Lieutenant, as Captain; G. H.
Bemius, late Third Lieutenant, as First Lieutenant,
and -T._ R. Kennedy 411' Secobd Lieutenant. A
beautiful silk flag, made by the - ladies of Mead
' vitae, and forwarded - here, has just been received
by lbet company.
The quarters of the man are now quite non:forth
' ble, andelnoe the rains have ceased, the number of
. sick have greatly diminished. There are now only
four or dye ooeflord in the-hospital, and none of
these are seriously ill.. We found the Surgeon, Dr.

We cannot close this notice without acknowledg
