Pat and the Railroad President.
It is well known that_ the President of the
Vermont and Massachusetts R. R., the Rev.
Thiimas Whittemore, is a Universalist clergy:
man. The - &Rowing anecdote, therefore, will
be 'appreciated by all who know him; and, as
he frequently tells it himself, we consider our
, idiot relieved from all violation of secrecy in
putting it in print.
Dming his pedestrian survey of the railroad,
the President came arose a gang of Miesiana
at Ahedepot in Athol, throwing rails off from
a platirnii. oar, with that reckless disregard of
pirOperty which cluirseVuises this dam of
laboras when not Intel:mi. Mr. Whittemore,
without revealing his official nlation to the
toed, very quietly requested them to be more
eanfrd, when with trim Irish impudence at
what they deemed an interference with their
burliness, they replied, "Go way wid per !"
Mr.. Wittemore, not the least ruffled, very
mildly. said, "I don't like to Nee property dee
trojel, and you are destroying property here."
"Arrah, divel burn yaz and yer property !
vibe was either tellin' the hies of yes to be
meildlin' luau I"'
Mr. Whittemore, atilt in a mild but firmer
tont, told them they must desist. At this the
prinipal Pat buitled fiercely up and shouted,
"TO It— widyea I"
'Ali, my said Mr. W., "that is a
very bed placer—it is the last place I want to
-"go to,
"Fula and it'll la the last place ye'll go to !"
said Pat, resuming his work.
Pat's wit was too much for the reverend
President's eqaMdfnity, which gave way in a
. hauti web, lifter which he revealed his of.
ficriil character to- the Hibernia= and put a
stoo-te the smashing business in which they
were engaged.

Ayer's Sarsaparilla
A compound remedy, designed to be the most
effectual Akeratire that can be made. It is
concentrated extract of Para Sarsaparilla,
so - combined with other. substances of still
greater alterative power as to afford an effec
tive antidote for the diseases Sarsaparilla is
reputed to cure. It -is believed that such a
remedy is wanted by those who suffer from
Strumous complaints, and that one which will
accomplish their cure must prove of immense
service to this large class of our afflicted fellow
citizens. How completely this compound will
do it has been proven by experiment on many
of the worst cases to be found of the following
complaints :
SOXOSTLA AND SCROFULOUS CORPLAINTS,
ERUPTIONS AIM ERUPTIVE DISEASES, ULCER',
E/XPLES. BLOTCHFJ3, TUMORS, SALT Rn crv,

ItALOIA OR TIC DOULOUREUX, DEIIILITY, DYS

class of complaints arising from Istvan= or
TIM BLOOD.
This compound will be found n great pro
moter of health. when-taken in the spring, to
expel the foul humors whieli fester in the
blood at that season of the year. Be the thne
ly expulsion of them many rankling disorders
are mppid in the bud. * Multitudes can, by
the aid of this remedy, spare themselves from
the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcerous
sores, through which the system will strive to
rid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to do
this through the natural channel: of the body
by an alterative medicine. Cleanse out the
vitiated blood whenever you find its impurities
bursting through the skin in pimples, eruptions,
or sores; cleanse it when you find it is ob
structed and sluggish in the veins; cleanse it
whenever it in foul, and your feelings will tell
Tau when. Even where no particular disorder
is Mt, people enjoy better health, and live
longer,
for cleansing the blood. Keep the
blood healthy, and all is well ; but with this
pabulum of life disordered. there can be no
lasting health. Sooner or later something
must go wrong, and the great machinery of
life is disordered or overthrown.
Sarsaparilla has, and deserves much, the
reputation of accomplishing these ends. But
the world has been egregiously deceived by
preparations of it, Tautly because the drug
done has not all the virtue that is eLsimed
for it, but more because many preparations,
pretending to be concentrated extracts of it,
contain but little of the virtue of Sarsaparilla,
or any thing else..
During late years the public have been mis.
led by large. bottles, pretending to give a quart
of Extract of Sarsaparilla far one dollar. Most
of these have been frauds upon the sick, for
they mot only contain little, if any, Sarsapa
rilla, but often no curative properties whatev
er. Haim, bitter and painful disappointment
has followed the use of the various extracts of
Sarsaparilla which flood the 'market, until the
name itself is justly despised, and has become
synonymous with imposition and eheut. Still
we call this compound Sarsaparilla, to intend
to supply such a remedy as shall rescue the
name - from the load of obloquy which rests
upon it. And we think we have ground for
believing it has virtues which are irresistible
by the ordinary run of the diseases it is intend.
ed to cure. In order to secure their complete
eradication from the system, the remedy should
be judiciOusly taken according to directions on
the bottle.
