We readied the North Ansa on the
evening of the 24th, but did not get en
gaged, a. we had a battery to support.
On the morning of tbe 27th I was put
in charge of thirty-four nieu on picket, in
an open field within 250 yards of the
Rebel, works. They made us keep low

Several more went, but the rest would not
start. So I essayed it myself, snake fash,

ered me. I got up and ran until it became
too bot, and dropped behind a log until
they quit firing. Then I ran again, and
wa. soon sheltered by bill, and got back
safe. I lost Erdley and Yoder, and about
12 men of other companies, some of whom
were wounded. I think they were all
taken prisoners. I never wish to with
draw pickets in daylight if they are in an
open field. We marobed from there four
miles, took op a line, and dug rifle pita.
On the evening of June 1st, tbe Rebels
made an attack on ns. Wo had some
troops on onr left, but they run without
firing a gun. H and E wero on tho left

Rebels made a break for tbe gap. When
wo saw it, Lt. Foster and I left-faced our
companie. and deployed them in tha gap,
got tbe men behind tree, and logs, and
tbey opened on the Rebels in floe style.
In a few moments, tbe Rebels halted, and
Co. II. K. G. and tt. earns up and we held
Ibo line. It wis a most interesting little
