    UNION COUNTY STAR & LEWJSBURG CHRONICLE-SEPT. 1, 1803.
The Rebel System, Insupportable.
Washington, August 27.
Tht ChronuU bat received the Georgia
CmttilutionaUd of tbe 21th of Aoposi,
containing a letter from Robert Toombs,
lite Senator of the Uoited State, and late
I'cbel Secretary of State. It is uoJoubtel
and ntartliog evidence of tbe uttor batik,
ruptcj and failure of tbe Confederacy.
He boldly expose) tbe wiiketlosss and
corruption of the managers of tbe bogus
gnvrrnmtnt. Tbe whole thing is rotten,
useless, and wicked. The law are weak.
nd tbe raters oppressive, aud a starving I
cnmtnnnitj ie impoverished and pluodorod. J
We qiote Ibe following remarkable par
agraph: "Can I ssy more to eipise the bnorid

ours at more than one thousand. The
reason is solely that tbeir government L

than ours, la all clo c bad the ailvan

Toombs proeocJ?, and says tbat taxa
tion, rigid coroprebeoMon, and loans, are
tbe ouly ways by wbicb sjuod currency
can be obtained. lie thus concludes:
" lie munt net, ami that epiirkly. TUe

insupportable. It is upsetting the very
f juudatinns of private rights ; daily weak
ening public confidence in our causo at
home and abroad; sowing among the
people dangerous Ot-ontoot, anion are
daily deepening and widening. IVriot

Wbcn that lcadiog original Rebel thus
public! exposes tbtir duwnwird course,
who can doubt tbe fiaal result ?
'Wot as you Knows on."
The Chicago Timet claims tbat it "is a
Deniocratio paper, aud therefore always!

Tbe Ilichoiond

Democratie papers in tbe Cotton and S
Y. States, known to us, are open Rebels
"Therefore loyal 1"
Jeff. Davis and all ctber noted original
