Song of the I nlon Soldiers.
-CUl 'EM NAMES, JEFF.
This song will not be likely to please
your Secession neighbors, (if you are so
Unfortunate as to have any,) but, as sar
casm is often wore effective than argument,
it may-help to shut their mouths. At all
vents, it is a genuine and earnest guh
of patriotic feeling, and the music is
bright and sparkling. A novel effect is
produced in the chorus, where tho laugh
comes in.
Said Bcanrepard to Lee and Jeff,
"These Yankee sons of thunder
Will scatter us from rifht to left,
Or cause us to knock under,
Unless we find some other way
Of meeting their advances ;
We've made up faces now so long,
They do Dot mind our glances.
Chorus Ha, ha ! ha ! ha ! ha ! ha ! ha ! ha !
Thev do not ha, ha ! ha ! ha ! ha !
They do not mind our glauces."
-0 true," said Jeff, ''I know it well
How shall wc change our game, sir?"
'0 dear '." said Lee, "I cau not tell."
Quoth Beau," We'll call 'em names, sir."
'That's good,'said Jeff, 'you've hit it Beau."
Cried Lee, '-That's what's the matter,
'We'll call them 'Abolitionists,'
And then you'll see them scatter."
They rubbed their traitor hands in glee,
And issued stringent orders, .
Signed by the polite Beauregard,
That henceforth, through their borders,
The only word that should be used
To name the Yankee soldier,
Should be '-an Abolitionist,"
And then they strutted bolder.
They really thought that calling names
Had strengthened their position ;
Then, all their sneaking tools up North
Kan, screaming "Abolition !"
But soon we made the traitors know
'Twas something else the matter:
The more they "Abolition" howled,
The more we did u't scatter !
We'll take the name yon give ns, Beau !
We mean to make it true, sir;
We'll first abolish Slav'ry's power,
And then abolish you sir !
You thought we'd guard your niggers, Jeff
And keep them raising corn, sir.
To feed the traitor hordes you lead
We'll do it in a horn, sir.
We'll free your blarks and fight ymirwhites,
And dig, fur traitors, graves sir,
Until there's not, in all the laud,
A traitor or a slave, sir.
When that is done, we'll home return
The home to us so dear, sir
And soundly kirk and cuff the curs
Now barking in our rear, sir.
MURFREESItOBO, April 5.
My dear old Grandpa
I am now in service over fifteen months. I
enlisted, became I thought it my duty to
do so. I heard others say what it would
be to live under a broken government, but
did not thiok it would ba as bad as what ,
I hive learned sioce I came in service
and, now, am inclined to serve my country
at long a it it in this critical condition.
We have at present a large force here.
The place is strongly fortified, and we are
getting a large store of provisions. Gen.
Kosenorans is in command. The Rebels
are in strong force not more than 4 miles
from our outlines. Few days pass but
what Ibey have skirmishes. Our duty is
pretty heavy on picket about every six
days, camp guard about once a week, and
drill four hours a day when not on other
duty. I was in the Perryville battle, and
the M or frees boro battle, and got through
tbem safe: the last was indeed a hard
battle : we were in a heavy portion of the
81st Dee , in front six days, the weather
cold and wet : we suffered greatly : the
Captain and seven others of our Company
were killed, and sixteen wounded. But,
however hard, our forefathers suffered fur
us, and we should not let our Government
go to ruio in this age of the world.
If I get out of the army, I tbiik I shall
pay yon visit. Tlease tell me who of
lbs boja in jour vwmitj have gone to the j
army. Sam'l H. Meixel,
Co. P., atitb III. Vol.

BO.M.L.WAiESSELLER,of Seliosgrove,
writes from tbe Union Army in Virginia,
S J lost., ai follow :
"There wu raoet intense indignation
atnoae tha soldiers in consequence of tbe
base and iofamons conduct of oopperbead
fanatic and contemptible partizans of tbe
Stata Legislature, in refusing tbe Hill to
those two noble and lofty patriots, Gov.
Johnson and Gov. Wright, to deliver ad
dresses in defence of our country. Tbey
have clearly demonstrated tbat tbeir vehe
ment cry for the "freedom of speech" was
simply the ranliog of hypocritioal doma
gogues. Let their names be placed on
Ibe roll of infamy, so tbat tbeir baseness
may be a warning to all future ages. Tbe j
speeches woicq were aeuverea oy toe pat
riotic men in the Senate ou tbe occasion,
who love tbeir country better than party,
were most excellent especially those by
Low ay, Tcbrell, and Hocnd. What a
cootrast between tbe noble sentiments to
wbieb they gave utterance, and tbe mer
cenary language of the Copperheads V
Bread Riots. When the women in
Richmond, Petersburg, Raleigh and Salis
bury, defied the military, and broke open
bops, stores, and depots to satiety their
famishing bodies, tbey betrayed extreme
destitution prevailing in those portions of
Rebeldom. aaTTbe poor people, and the
common classes, are all stripped, to keep
Ibe soldiers in fighting trim Only
future day can fully reveal tbe sufferings
ibfltcted upon women and children, of all
colors, by tbe Slave Lords, who care more
for their slaves than foe tbeir poor white
neighbors.
