station, loaned his lamp to a passenger the
other evening, and laid down and full
asleep. The passenger returned and set
the lamp in the pigeon hole, thc lattice
around w hich took lire from it, and come
near destroying thc office. Thc cracking
of the lire awoke Mr. Hawley, who suc
ceeded iu extinguishing thc flames, but
had his bands so badly burned, that ha
will be unable to attend to his business for
