Disposing of Old Stock.

At length, tavern-keeper directed him to
farmer, who, be said, was very much in
want of the article. To the bouse of this
ready customer, went Jonathan, determin
ed to get bis trouble's worth out of him.
The first person be met was the overseer,

"Yoo don't wao'ttobujr a good lantern, j
do you ?" asked Jonathan.
"Yes, though, 1 reckon I do," returned

and, receiving his noney, proceeded on.

wife, washing clothes at the spring.
"Ye," was the reply ; "Mr. li. bus been

Jonathan accordingly served ber out
cue at the came price be bad bargained

At tbe barn, before be reached the
farm-bouse, he met the son of the planter.
"You don't want to buy no lanterns, do
job !"
"I don't want one myself," replied the
young man, "but I'll take one for father,
wbo has been after one this long while."
Jonathan accordingly pocketed thirty
