SERMON SERIES IN
OLIVET CHURCH
Dr. S. A. Bower to Preach
First of 7-Sermon Series
on Sunday Morning
Rev. S. A. Bower, of Olivet Pres
byterian Church, will preach a
eries of sermons on "The Great
Truth of the Bible," on Sunday
mornings.
The following themes will consti
tute the subjects to be treated:
"God," "Salvation," "Sin," "Salva
tion," "Jesus Christ," "The Church,"
and "Missions.,'
On Sunday morning the pustor
will preach on the first subject,
"God." At the evening hour of ser
vice, A. W. Bower will preach on
the "Christian Citizenship 100 Per
Cent. American." it will be a pa
triotic service in dedicating the ma
jesty of the low and order and
proving that the ideal citizen is the
Christian citizen.
The sermon will be a warning
against giving ear to the atheistic or
Bolshevistic doctrines of either pro
fessional agitators or "parlor Bol
shevists," and a summons to all i
true Americans to stand loyally by
the flag of their country and the
church.
The session of the school will be
gin at 10 o'clock. Miss Alice R.
Eaton, librarian of City Library, will
make an address on "Books and
Life." She will present, for the
school, to the class taught by Miss
Anna Holbert, a handsome wall
banner, for maintaining the best
record of attendance among the
classes during the summer period.
She will also, in the name of the
school, give a book to each of the
following scholars from the Be
ginners', Primary, Junior and Inter
mediate Departments for perfect
records of attendance during the
same time:

Edwin J. Knisely has been named
as Master of Olivet's Boy Scout
Troop, and will have Amos Nye as
his first assistant. The troop meets
every Friday evening in the social
room of the church.

Green Street Church of God Sunday
Schools Golden Anniversary. The
Sunday Schooi orchestra will have

ence Cooper Ley, daughter of the
first appointed pastor, Rev. J.
Cooper, will be present, and sing.
Elmer Ley, also will sing a solo.
Colonel 11. C. Demmlng, who was
the superintendent fifty years ago,
will be present and deliver an ad
dress. Rev. O. J. Farling, one of
the organizers of the school, will
give a short address. The address
of welcome will be given by the
present superintendent, D. S. Lowe.

Tlie school after it was organized
October 31, 1869, held Its sessions in
the building at Penn and Broad,
streets, and moved into the old
structure that was torn down in 1913
and replaced by the present struc
ture. This was dedicated in Janu
ary, 1914, under the pastorate of the
Rev. C. H. Grove.
During the superintendency of
Colonel H. C. Demmy over 27,000
people passed through the school.

This interesting gathering is to be
gin at 10 o'clock in the Sunday

torium to participate in an interest
ing program by C". H. Kenworthy.
The iirst annual father and son
banquet in observance of Father
and Son Weeq will be held Tuesday
evening at 6.30 o'clock in the social
hall. More than 200 will attend this
gathering. Sunday night at 7.30 Dr.
Clayton Albert Smucker will preach
on "The Ark at the Door of Abi
nadab's House in the Hill." This will
be a sermon to parents and young
folk. Fathers and their sons will
act as ushers at this meeting. Prof.
John W. Phillips and the chorus
choir will render special music.
On next Saturday evening at 6
o'clock a large company of soldiers
from the Carlisle Hospital are to be
served by the Epworth League of
the church with a hot meat dinner
in the social hall.

"What to Believe About Man"
will be the subject of the sermon
ut the Pine Street Presbyterian
Church on Sunday morning. This
sermon will be another in the series
of which the general title is "What
To Believe and Why," and which is
proving of great help to many
people. At the evening service
"The Bread Christ Brake," will be
the subject of the sermon. The pas
tor, Dr. Lewis Seymour Mudge, will
preach at both these services and
special effort will be given to mak
ing the music, both quartet and
organ, of particular helpfulness.
On Monday evening at 7.30
in the Boyd Memorial Building. W.
D. B. Ainey, will head the Men's
Mission Study Class. Last Monday
night's session of this class was
largely preliminary, and those com
ing this Monday evening will not
find themselves seriously handi
capped in continuing with'the class.
At 8.30 o'clock at the Boyd Memor
ial Building, the Rev. 11. B. Hulbert
of Korea, will speak informally to
any of the men of the church and
their friends who may assemble at
that time and place. Dr. Hulbert
is to be the speaker at the Chamber
of Commerce luncheon at noon. lie
has spent nearly a quarter of a cen
tury in Korea, and is thoroughly
familiar with past and present con
ditions there. He will be able to
give a profoundly interesting ac
count of the great events which
have occurred in the progress of the
Herfnit Kingdom. Dr. Hulbert is
one of the great living authorities
on anything which has to do with
Korea.
On Tuesday evening the Young
vVomen's Home and Foreign Mission
Circle will hold its monthly meeting
at the Women .and Girls' Building.
On Wednesday evening at the mid
week service the pastor will con
tinue the series of addresses on tlie
life of Christ. The subject for next
Wednesday evening will be "The
Christ \\ e Forget; His Teachers."
On Thursday evening the regular
gatherings of the Mothers at Pino
Street and Bethany Chapel will take
place. On Friday afternoon the

America has laid before its congre
gations a plan for an every-member i
visitation during the week of No-'
vember 23-30. The captains forj
each congregation have been ap- i
pointed and a large number of man
chosen who will go out two by two
to visit every home during Thanks
giving week, beginning Sunday aft
ernoon, November 23.
Jn addition to the above service,
the local committee has sent to each
congregation of Harrisburg and vi
cinity printed matter to be distrib
uted to the homes not later than
November 18. E. G. Hoover, Luther
Minter and Warren Fortenbaugh are
members of that committee. In
order that members may come in
touch with this central service, prac
tically all Lutheran Churches of
Harrisburg and vicinity will be

mass meeting in Fifth Street Metho
dist Church, on Thursday evening,
at 8 o'clock. This Teen Age Union
was the first organization of its
kind to be formed In all of Method
ism.
This is the second muss meeting
that this organization has held, the
last one held at Grace Church, the
Grace Methodist Teen Age Depart
ment won the banner presented by
Centenary Headquarters. The Teen
Age Department that has the
largest per cent of members present
at this meeting will win the banner
for tlie coining year. A great deal of
friendly rivalry has been stirred up.
