British Theiving
Increases Since War
Ijonrion, July 17.—Thieving, has
increased immeasurably throughout
England since the end of hostilities,
and has tuken on many novel forms.
Recently, two large oil paintings
were stolen from the wall of u
country house in Sovenoaks, a Sur
rey village. The owner had invited
a distinguished party to view the
pictures, but when they entered the
temporary gallery there were no
pictures.
One picture was a half length por
trait of Queen Elizabeth painted in
1600, and the other of a man fill
ing his pipe, also a large canvas.
