Mr. Cottl, dean of Mulhausen, was overcome by emotion at the official reception to the French officers and dropped dead. He had been for many years a champion of the French cause in, Alsace. After the official ceremonies, tha government of the city addressed a telegram to the French government declaring the strong attachment of Mulhausen to France and the un wavering loyalty of the population.
