• Trading In the first half hour of
to-day's stock market was charac
terized by extreme irregularity, the
war division again reacting, while
shippings, utiltles and oils resumed
their activity nt material gains. Ma
rino pfd.,- rose three points, Atlan
tic Gulf gaining about half as
much, while Western Union, Peo
ple's Gns, Mexican Petroleum and
Texas Company gained 2 to 3 points.
Equipments of the class represent
ed by Baldwin Locomotive and the
Independent Steels broke 1 to 2
points. United States Steel yielded
a small fraction but soon rallied a
full point. Canadian Pacific also
showed some heaviness in the initial
dealings but rallied briskly.
Minimum- quotations for the cur
rent movement were made by active i
war equipments during the further
Irregular trading of the morning.
Declines in stocks were accompa
nied by heaviness in leathers, cop
pers and distilling issues. Kails were
very erratic. Canadian Pacific's rally
in the first half hour being suc
ceeded by unother drop of 2V4 points.
U. S. Steel was distinctly Btrong, evi

on the bull side, extending its gain
3'i points.
