School Libraries
to Be Established
Six or seven branch libraries will
be established in the schools of the
eity by the Harrisburg Public Li
brary early in October. Fourteen
have beon asked, but the library has
not the money to meet the demands
owing to the fact that while operat
ing expenses have jumped there has
heen no increase in come. Tho school
libraries will be announced in a short
time.
Under the co-operating plan of the
school board, the school district pro
vides the cases and tho school prin
cipal assigns one of the teachers as
a librarian. The library sends out one
of the members of its staff to the
school once a week or so and talks
are given to the pupils and the teach
ers instructed in library practice.
The school libraries were discussed
by the trustees at their meeting last
night. 'Hie circulation in August was
over 9,000 hooks at the library, higher
than any August except one in the
history of the institution, according
to reports made.
The trustees adopted a resolution
of thanks to Harry Beck for the do
nation of his services in 'touching up"
the paintings at the library.
