Contract For Decoration
of Post Office to Be Let
Before the onu of the week it is!
expected th.it :i contract will be!
awarded for the decoration of tnei
walls of the remodeled Federal build
ing. Owing to the war it has be n I
practically impossible to obtain .-an- I
vns for the walls and a decision has '
finally been reached to paint them ;
without the canvas base.
Postmaster Sites expects to occupy I
a section of the building with the'
parcel post department on the first
of June, but he is not sure when
the entire force can be transferred
to the reconstructed quarters
It is probable that the two subota
j tions in Mactay street and Thirteenth
;street near Market will be abandoned
j and the whole force concentrated in
I the main building in the Federal
1 Square. When these stations were
i established several years ago the
I I'ederal building was so congested
j that it was absolutely necessary to
find quarters for part of the force
outside. With the parcel post de
| velopment, however, and other pos
j tal changes the -substation a r range
■ ment is not efficient and it is believ
| ed better service will result from a
concentration of the entire force in
the main building.
