Dogs under six months are not to
be licensed, but as they are prone
to roam about many letters have
come here asking what to do with
them if captured and owners do not
arrange for their liberation. By the
terms of the code unlicensed dogs
not called for are to be shot or de
stroyed.
The operation of the new dog li
cense act has been brought to at
tention of State Game Commission
officers and wardens hav.e been in
structed to use care in shooting un
licensed dogs and to pen up the ani
mals under six months old.
Inmates Do Well. —Inmates of the
Danville State Hospital, who were
organized into an auxiliary of the
Red Cross, have, contributed almost
45,000 separate articles since organ
ized last May, according to a letter
received by Governor Brumbaugh
from the institution. The Governor
issued a suggestion that people in
state institutions should knit for the
soldiers and at Danville there have
been made 127 sweaters. 186 pairs
of socks, 30 pairs of wristlets, 13
helmets and 9 scarfs. The in
mates have also made bathrobes,
surgeons' gowns, bed shirts and
thousands of surgical gauze dress
ings.
Chester Case. —The Public Service
Commission has scheduled its llrst
hearing for Chester. It will be held
Thursday, and will relate to tho
complaints that railroads have closed
avenues in Essington. Hearings are
to be held In this city and Leba
non and other complaints next week.
Mlddlctown Case Next.—The Mld
dletown water case will be heard by
the Public Service Commission next

Major Uhler Transferred. —Chi f
Engineer W. H. Uhler, of the State
Highway Department, has been
transferred to the Quartermaster
Corps. He Is awaiting orders to re
port for duty. Mr. Uhler was for
merly In the National Guard.

British War Nurse Tells
of German Prison Camps

Mrs. Kyla Hastings, whose hus
band was killed while serving as a
lieutenant in the British Army In
the battle of Loos, is visiting in
Chicago. Mrs. Hastings served as
a nurse in the Fourth London Gen
eral Hospital. In speaking of her
experiences she said:
