NEW APPLE LAW ON SEPTEMBER 1 It Will Give Pennsylvania a New Standing in the Gen eral Fruit Business The State De partment of Agri culture is arrang ing to begin en forcement of the new apple stand ard law of 1917 on September 1, and the Bureau of Markets will be In charge, al- though informa tion for failure to observe its provisions may be brought by any individual before- a magistrate in any part of the State. The law is designed to secure uni formity in packing and labeling of apples, the growing of which has assumed big proportions in Adams, Franklin and other southern coun ties. It will affect all apples that are packed whether they are shipped in boxes, barrels, crates or. baskets. The apples on the top row must be the fame as those on the bottom or in the middle, while the labels must give a true statement of the variety and quality. A penalty of fifty dollars fine for violation is provided. To Ho Hoard Monday.—All of the mandamus proceedings growing out of the tiling of nominating petitions at the Capitol this year will be heard by the Dauphin county court next Monday. There are four such ac tions against the secretary of the commonwealth, one involving con gressfonal papers and three from as pirants for judicial nominations in Philadelphia.
