Mount Wolf, Pa., July 28.—Up to
the present time this borough has
furnished only three men for Uncle
Sam's army. Ira Craley is a private
in Company K, Eighth Regiment,
National Guard of Pennsylvania.
Harvey Sope some time ago Joined
the regulars, and Harold Hoff, one
of the hospital corps, is jiow located
somewhere in Texas. This leaves
several to be taken from the number
drafted. At the time of the enroll
ment the borough had sixty-nine on
the list. Nearly all those called first
are married men and there is much
concern as to what the outcome of
this will be.—Electricians of the Edi
son Light and Power Company have
finished the running of wires from
the power plant at York Haven to
the quarries of the Union Stone Com
pany at New Holland. The stone
company is building practically a new
tcwn near New Holland. The wires
run direct from the power plant and
will furnish current for the operation
of the quarries and the lighting of
the streets and houses.—-Mrs. Annie

Fine New Pipe Organ
At Millersburg Church
Millersburg, Pa., July 28.—Prepa
rations are being made at the Re
formed Church for the installation
of a fine new pipe organ which the
church purchased some time ago. In
order to accommodate the organ a
large part of the west side of the
building was opened and several of
the memorial windows changed to
other places.—George M. Bowman is
out again after a three months' siege
of rheumatism. The Millersburg
Athletic Association received $l5B
from the carnival company stationed
here last week as its share of the
proceeds.—Miss Mary Heckert. daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson W. Heck
ert, of West Center street, was op
erated on for appendicitis at the
Harrisburg Hospital early in the

FIVE GENERATION GROUP
Marietta, Pa., July 28. Samuel Saylor, aged 81 years, is the head
of a five generation family. He is a veteran of the Civil War, and a na
tive of West Manchester township, York county. He was a member of
Company C, Eighty-Seventh Pennsylvania Volunteers, and after serving
his first enlistment re-enlisted in another regiment Those in the pic
ture beside Mr. Saylor are his daughter, Mrs. Baugher Fry, aged 04
years; his granddaughter, Mrs. Mary C. Smith; Katharine Shroy, a great
granddaughter, and little Mary Shroy, a great-great-grandchild.

Gcttynburg, Pa., July 28.—T0 help
provide entertainment for the soldier
boys it Is planned to erect a large tent
theater with a seating capacity of
about 1400, on grounds adjoining the
camp, where it Is proposed giving
high grade musical comedies.—T. W.
Biddle, of York, and three soldiers
were injured when the automobile in
which they were returning from York
struck a pile of stones and overturned
at the bridge at the eastern edge of
town. The men were pinned under
the heavy car. Jacob A. Appier is
fast acquiring the title of the "Mar
rying Squire," as a result of his ac
tivities in this line with the soldiers
from the camp. Already he has tied
the knot for four couples. For
sonit time an old turkey,, gobbler has
been missing from the farm, near
New Oxford tenanted by Harry J.
March. Recently, while Mr. March
was passing through a strip of Wood
yandw, he discovered the old bird
setting upon five eggs and was as
"clucky" as any old hen could be. —
News has been received in the last
several days from two Adams county
boys that they are now in service in
France. The one is Grover Brown, of
Littlestown, and the other Austin
Ernest, of Gettysburg. Brown is in
the Red Cross and Ernest in the hos
pital service. Bruce Swamley Ey
tinge, of New Oxford, has enlisted as
a cadet in the Royal Flying Corps,
of Canada, and is now undergoing
instructions at Toronto. Authorities
here seem determined to wipe out cer
tain nuisances in the borough com
plained of by the Board of Health and
the borough has appropriated S4OO for
daily inspections of the grounds
where the nuisances exist for a period
of three months, in order to abate the
nuisance which in most cases, are pig
pens, against which there :s a bor
ough ordinance. Hanover Boy
Scouts visited the battlefield and one
of the features of the trip was that
hefore leaving home each one of the
boys was given the name of one of the
generals who took part in the battle
and while on the battlefield was ex
pected to give n sketch of his life and
what part he took in the memorable
fight here. Dr. W. A. Granville,
president of the college, announces a
gift of SI,OOO from the Rev. Austin
S. Garver, of Worcester, Mass., the in
terest of which is to be used as prizes
in Greek and Latin to members of the
Freshman class.—The Biederwolf
Bible class of the Methodist Sunday
School of Waynesboro visited Gettys
burg on Sunday on their annual out
ing and attended the Methodist Sun
day school and church in a body.
There are about one hundred and
thirty-five men in the class.

Columbia Musician Enlists
in Fourth Regiment Band

Columbia, Pa., July 28. —Leigh E.
Wittell, a well-known violinist, and a
member of the Metropolitan band, of
Columbia, has enlisted In the Fourth
Regiment band and with that organ
ization Is waiting to go to the front.
He enlisted April 9, 1917, and be
came the clarionet soloist He is a
young man and is an accomplished
violinist, having been leader of the
orchestra bearing his name. He is the
younger brother of Chester Wittell,
the composer, and noted-pianist. Mr.
Wittell is one of the youngest musi
cians to enlist and Just recently was
married to Mary Catharine Mowery,
a graduate of the training school of
the Columbia Hospital. He is a son
of Mr. and Mrs. Morris A. Wittell, o£
Columbia.
Guard Shoots Through Wall
of Stable and Kills Mule
Mount Union, Pa., July 28.—1t Is
reported that on Friday evening last
one of the guards on going off duty
thought he had taken all shells out
of his gun and upon trying it shot
through the side of J. A. Rosensteel's
livery stable. It was later discovered
that a mule belonging to the Atlantic
Kefining Company had been shot and
the animal died next morning.—Sev-

to the comptroller of the United
States currency for the Incorporation
of a new national bank in this place,
to be known as the Mount Union Na
tional bank, with a paid up capital
stock of $50,000. The bank will es
tablish its quarters in the Beer's hotel
building, a central point, in the room
now occupied by Harry Hollingshead.
It is the same room in which the
First National bank of Mount Union
started Its career some years ago.—

of Miss Anna Suvilla Brendle, of

Zellars has been visiting in the West
for the past month, and her mar
riage came as a complete surprise
to her friends. She was educated at
Wilson College and afterward took a
nurse's course at Garfield Hospital,
