Lebanon People Spend Day
at Famous Resort
Mt. Gretna, Pa., July 5. lndepe
ndence Day brought crowds of people
to Mt. Gretna from Harrisburg and
Ijebanon.' The picnic trans from Leba
non wera delayed by a spread rail on
th Lebanon and Cornwall Railroad.
The Perseverance band, of Lebanon,
vil engaged' by the manager of the
park to give concerts during the day
at Conewago Lake and In the park.
Earl Stauffer, of Harrisburg, spent
Wednesday with friends on the camp
meeting grounds.
Miss Clara Snavely, of 246 Woodbine
street, Harrisburg, was a visitor oh
Independence Day.
Miss Daisy Sheafter, of 614 North
Sixteenth street, Marrlsburg, has
opened her cottage for the summer.
Miss Emma Stuart spent the Fourth
at thi cottage.
Mr. and Mrs. lienry Burns, of Har
risburg, are spending several days at
their cottage.
Mr. and Mrs. Anson Devout, Miss
Dorothy Dsvout. Miss Susanne Devout
and Miss Virginia Farrer motored to
Mt. Gretna on Independence Day.
Mr. and Mrs. David Cotterel and

ed a cottage on the campmeeting

spent the Fourth at Chatham cottage
on the campmeeting grounds.

the campmeeting grounds, on Wed
nesday, and had as her guests Mrs. S.
J. Waeludin and Miss Grace Waeldln,
of Harrisburg.
The Rev. Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Wag
ner, Miss Mary Elizabeth Wagner and
Richard Wagner, of Reading, are
summering at their cottage on the
Chautauqua grounds.
Howard Burkley, of Harrisburg, is
spending some time here.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Knoll, Miss
Annie Nlssley, Mrs. E. E. Beidleman,
of Harrisburg. and Mrs. J. C. Keener,
of Fort Wayne. Ind„ motored from
Harrisburg to Mt. Gretna on Wednes

Fourth Celebration at
Carlisle Indian School
Carlisle, Pa., July s.—The feature
of Independence Day observance
here yesterday wa sa program of
sports and exercises held through
out the day at the Carlisle Indian
school. They opened in the morning
with a school picnic and an address
by Superintendent John Frances,
Jr. In the afternoon a baseball
game between the small boys and
girls was staged with a series of
races, tugs of war and similar acti
vities. The whole clased with a band
concert on the school campus. The
display of fireworks was omitted
this year as a war measure.
An e%rly morning community
prayer service in the First Presby
terian Church in which all denomi
nations Joined was the only formal
celebration of the nation's birthday.
Various pastors prayed for the na
tion in the hour of crisis.
Judge Sadler Dismisses
Question in Richwine Sale
Carlisle, Pa. .July s.—ln an opin
ion just given, Judge S .B. Sadler
dismisses the contention that the re
cent sheriff's sale of the property of
A. Grant Richwine, was not legal.
Attorneys based the claim on the
ground that the sale which resulted
in the purchase by the Union Trust
Company of Harrisburg, of the var
ious properties of the Mechanicshurg
man was not properly advertised,
the type in the bills being said to be
too small and the description faulty.
Seven Injured When Auto
Goes Over Embankment
Mount Union, Pa.. July 5. Abe
Straus, clothing merchant, of Mount
Union, ran his automobile over the
embankment at the bridge crossing
the Juniata river and the occupants
narrowly escaped death. Mr. Straus
had both arms broken and his son
was seriously cut about the head; Mrs.
Straus and three children and a sis
ter of Mrs. Straus and a man
visiting there were all badly bruised
and cut. The car was damaged.
SIXTEEN' ENLIST IX ARMY
Carlisle, Pa., July 5. —Boiling
Springs, with a population under
600, and but a fraction of this num
ber t<j be furnished under the draft,
has come to the fore in patriotism.
t 3n the las ttwo weeks the town has
sent sixteen men to the colors. One
Is at Fort Niagara, two are in the
United Statesa rmy. Dr. E. K. Le
fevere, of this town, has been ap
pointed an officer in the medical
corps and the remainder have Join
ed Company G .Eighth regiment N.
G. P., at Carlisle.
INJURIES CAUSE DEATH
Marietta, July 6.—Charles Hertz,
•who Tfras hurt In a motorcycle acci
dent at Rohrerstown on Sunday,
died in the St. Joseph's Hospital,
yesterday from a fractured Bkull and
internal injuries. He was 26 years
old, and is survived by his wife and
aehild . He . was riding with his
brother. Hertz, on a tnndem motor
cycle when the accident occurred.
RED MEN'S CONVENTION
Marietta, July 6.—The York-
Adams county convention of Red
Men will be held at East Berlin, on
Saturday, July 28. There will be a
street demonstration in the after
noon, and several bands will partici
pate. Past Great Sachems will be
present.
SEVEN PER CENT. DIVIDEND
Waynesboro, Pa., July B.—The Peo
ple's National Bank has declared a
semiannual dividend of seven per cent.
This Is one per cent, higher than ever
before declared. The dividend amounts
to $7,000.
