After Judg*e Thompson. in Federal Court, had refused yesterday to allow Harry Cooper, a Russian, to escape conscrip tion by changing the date of birth In his naturalization papers. Chief Naturalization Examiner Shoemaker disclosed that his office has been flooded by requests of soon-to-bc citi zens to rectify "errors" they had made In giving the time of their birth. Most of them explained they dis covered the "error" months ago, but by a singular coincidence all the re quests to change the date have come since Congress passed the conscrip tion law. It is noticeable, too, that every single man lias asked to have his birthday switched so that he could appear on the records as 31 or older. "Just plain slackers." said Exam iner Shoemaker. "We have been re fusing their requests because we felt there was absolutely no merit in them. We told them they could carry the matter to the court if our decision didn't satisfy them."
